Individual Profile

Chen Xiniang(陈习娘), male, Hani ethnic minority(哈尼族), was born in 1965 in Luome village(罗么村), Azhahe township(阿扎河乡),  Honghe county(红河县),  Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture(红河哈尼族彝族自治州),  who is the inheritor of Hani folk music .

Career

In 1975, Chen Xiniang learned Hani’s “back horse(背马)“, folk songs, musical instruments and dances by masters such as Zhang Hea(张和阿) and Zhang Minghu(张明呼), etc. In Hani’s several-department music “Wuchuaci(《吾处阿茨》)” , he mainly served as the main melody singer and the accompaniment of the small three strings, and could sing and dance together.  In 1997, participated in the Hani Folk Art Troupe(哈尼族民间艺术团) of Honghe County to Hainan for  for promotional performances. In 2000, he joined the Honghe Folk Culture Performing Troupe(红河民间文化表演团) to conduct cultural exchange activities in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Influences

Over the years, Chen Xiniang by study hard mastered a variety of skills of the Hani polyphonic folk songs, like Chui La Tan Chang(吹拉弹唱), both vocal and instrumental music, can show the polyphonic folk songs of the Hani traditional melody, mode, timbre, techniques. He gradually grow into the most representative inheritor of the Hani folk music.
