Baiwu Village lies in Nagu Town, Huize County, Qujing City, Yunnan Province — right on the Yunnan–Sichuan border, with the Jinsha River to the east and the Yili River to the west. Just 25 km from Huize County and 5 km from Nagu Town, the village thrived during the era of “South Copper to the North,” earning the title “First Stop on the Thousand-Mile Copper Route to Beijing.”

Recognized for its cultural value, Baiwu was:

• Named a Chinese Historical and Cultural Village in 2005

• Listed among China’s First Traditional Villages in 2012

• Selected as a National Key Rural Tourism Village in 2020

Location & How to Get There ?️

From Kunming Changshui Airport: Kunming–Qujing Expressway → Songming–Dai Expressway → Exit at Huize (about 180 km, 2.5 hours), then drive 25 km along S303 to Baiwu.

By Public Transport ?

• High-speed rail: Huize Station (planned) is not yet in service. For now, take a train to Qujing North Station, transfer to an intercity bus to Huize (1.5 hours), then take a rural bus “Huize–Nagu” and get off at the Baiwu Archway. Walk 5 minutes into the village.

• Long-distance bus: From Kunming West Bus Station, daily departures 07:30–18:30 to Huize (RMB 68). From Huize, follow the same transfer as above.

By Car / Private Hire ?

Search “会泽娜姑白雾村” (Huize Nagu Baiwu Village) in navigation. From Huize County, 40 minutes direct. Free eco-parking is available at the village entrance.

Baiwu Ancient Street

A 600 m east–west stone-paved street, worn smooth by centuries of horses’ hooves. Over 200 well-preserved Ming & Qing houses line the way, with lattice windows, horse-head walls, and curved eaves.

Ancient Opera Stage ?

Built in 1893, once home to the famous “Jiqing Troupe” performing 49 days straight. The painted ceiling dome and gilded wood carvings remain vivid.

Sansheng Palace (Confucian Temple)

Built in 1819 with three courtyards and seven skylights, complete with Kuixing Pavilion, pond, and “Scholar’s Bridge.” It once housed a free public school.

Eight Merchant Guild Halls

Jiangxi Hall, Huguang Hall (Yu King Palace), and six more — ornate reminders of the copper trade era.

Ancient City Wall & Desheng Bridge

Built in 1860 for defense; 300 m of wall and the west city gate remain. The Yili River flows under the stone bridge — a perfect sunset view.
