Bajiazhai Mosque in Wenshan City

Wenshan

Bajiazhai Mosque (八家寨清真寺) is located in Bajiazhai (八家寨), under the Pingbazhai Village Committee (平坝寨村委), Hongdian Hui Township (红甸回族乡), Wenshan City (文山市), Yunnan Province (云南省). It was established in 1980, jointly built by the Hui communities of Bajiazhai and Pingbazhai villages. The mosque currently occupies 1.2 mu of land, with a total building area of 230 square meters.

Historical Background

Bajiazhai Mosque was jointly built by two Hui villages—Bajiazhai (八家寨) and Pingbazhai (平坝寨). Most Muslims in Bajiazhai had migrated from Maoke Village (茂克村), and due to the small number of households, they had no mosque of their own. Pingbazhai originally had a mosque, but its construction date is unknown. It was destroyed in a fire in the early 1940s and was never rebuilt. As the two villages are relatively close to each other, residents agreed to build a shared mosque, led by Na Shaohua (纳绍华), and the construction was completed in 1980.

Scale and Structure

The mosque occupies 1.2 mu of land. The main prayer hall features a two-bay brick-wood structure with a building area of 70 square meters. The total building area of the mosque is 230 square meters.

Religious Community and Cooperation

The mosque currently serves 40 Hui (回族) households with a total population of about 200. There are eight imams (阿訇) affiliated with the mosque, and the mosque preserves 100 volumes of Islamic scriptures.
