About Dabinglangyuan Village

Composed of 60 families with a total population of about 300, Dabinglangyuan village is located in Jiasa Town戛洒镇 of Xinping County, which is the hometown of the Huayao(Flowery) Dai people in central Yunnan. 

Dabinglangyuan village大槟榔园村 is hidden in a forest of tamarind trees, mango trees, lychee trees and Panzhihua trees攀枝花树. Different from the Dai bamboo houses of Xishuangbanna in the south of Yunnan, most of the residences in Dabinglangyuan village are earthen houses(Tuzhangfang土掌房), similar to those of the Yi people in Chengzi Village城子村 of Luxi County. 

Religious Belief 

Huayao Dai people worship mountain God, tree God, heaven God and water God. There are 9 trees in the village, and there are many sacrificial activities every year. Each year, Huayao Dai hold several sacrificial ceremonies for deities of mountains, plants, and water etc. 

Features of Dabinglangyuan Village

As a ethnic culture eco-tourism village, Dabinglangyuan park is a must-visit place for tourists and is the venue for the annual Huajie(flower street) festival花街节. The village organizes the women, displaying various customs for the tourists, such as brocade, embroidery, tooth dyeing, tattoo and so on. If you are lucky enough, you can also see the villagers sacrificing the dragon tree and other activities.

They remain the traditional way for making brown sugar from sugarcane by milling. There is a long history of extracting brown sugar. Bamboo wares made in this village also enjoy a big popularity.Traditional production and living customs, festivals, cultural and sports activities, sacrificial beliefs and other cultural forms are rich in content. There are many natural landscapes and convenient transportation near the village, which has been developed into the "Huayao Dai ethnic culture eco-tourism village花腰傣族文化生态旅游村".

The Daisa傣洒 branch of Huayao Dai花腰傣 lives here. It is said that they are the royal descendant of Dian Kingdom. As the Dian Kingdom滇国 was conquered by the Han dynasty, Dian people migrated to the south, and most of them went to Xishuangbanna西双版纳. But while the royal family came here, and was attracted by the beauty of this place, so they decided to stay here. The unique clothing of Huayao Dai is the costume of royal family at that time. We can find the trace of the ancient Dian Kingdom 2,000 years ago there.

Dabinglangyuan Village大槟榔园村 is a village with the administration of Nanbang Village Committee南蚌村委会, located in Jiasa Town of Xinping County in Yuxi, Yunnan. Located in the south of Jiasa Town戛洒镇, Dabinglangyuan Village is 2.5 kilometers from the government seat of Jiasa Town and 2 kilometers from village committee.

There are 6 non-stop buses a day from Kunming to Xinping County. Then another 1 hour and 15 minutes drive needs to spend from Xinping county新平县 to Jiasa Town戛洒镇.
