The Huayao Dai(花腰傣) in Xinping includes Daiya(傣雅), Daisa(傣洒), Daika(傣卡) and so on. Damuyu Village(大沐浴村) is the birthplace of the traditional flower street festival of the Huayao Dai people, which is inhabited by warm and hospitable, simple and kind, humble and industrious Huayao Dai people. Here is the largest betel nut plantation in Yunnan province. The village is hidden in the betel nut, mango, litchi and bamboo. The running Mosha River(漠沙河), simple and elegant Dai House, enchanting betel nut forest and beautiful field scenery display the unique natural landscape of Huayao Dai. Because Huayao Dai people live here for generations, their customs and feelings are even more unique. The elegant and splendid costumes have the characteristic of the royal family of Ancient Dian. Their Ganhua Festival(赶花节) is described as "East Valentine's Day", they believe that everything has their own spirits and they have peculiar custom of marriage and burial. All of these show the splendid ancient Pushui(濮水) culture and the native Dai culture in China.

The main attractions of Damuyu Village are the original residential earthen building, ancient post road, elephant ferry, Mosha River scenery, field scenery, betel nut forest, love spring, flower street festival site, bronze site of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, etc. Damuyu village is rich in natural resources, like rice, sugar cane, bitter gourd, litchi, mango, banana, green date, watermelon and other crops.

Where is Damuyu Huayao Dai Ethnic Culture Village?

Damuyu in Dai language is "a place where the lovers date". Damuyu Village(大沐浴村) is located in the north of Mosha Town(漠沙镇), Xinping county(新平县), Yuxi City, the west bank of Honghe River(红河). There are 104 families and a total population of 440. It is 4 kilometers away from Mosha Town, 68 kilometers from the county seat of Xinping County, 154 kilometers from Yuxi and 258 kilometers from Kunming. Damuyu village has a long history, it is impossible to verify when the village was built. In 1987, on the Daxiang(elephant) mountain of Damuyu Village, four bronze horn chimes are unearthed. They are identified as the cultural relics of the eastern Zhou dynasty, which confirmed that Damuyu Village is one of the ancient Huayao Dai villages in Xinping County.

How to Get There

There are 6 non-stop long-distance buses a day from Kunming South Bus Station to Xinping Bus Terminal. the distance between them is about 180 kilometers, 2.5 hours. Ticket price is 73 yuan. Then another 1.5 hours is needed from Xinping county(新平县) to Mosha Town(漠沙县). When you are in Mosha Town, you can go to Damuyu Huayao Dai Ethnic Culture Village by taxi.
