? Location & Overview
Feifeng Mountain (飞凤山) is located northeast of the county seat of Yangbi Yi Autonomous County (漾濞彝族自治县), in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan. Nestled on the western slopes of the Cangshan Mountains (苍山), it is a vital natural and cultural landmark renowned for its unique landforms and scenic value.
? Landscape & Scenic Features
Phoenix-Shaped Peaks
From Wolong Ridge (卧龙岗) northeast of the town, the mountain resembles a phoenix with outstretched wings, as if poised to soar — a dynamic and poetic sight.
Lush Forest Ecosystem
Years of ecological protection have nurtured the area into the Feifengshan Forest Park (飞凤山森林公园), a tranquil sanctuary rich with firs, eucalyptus, Huashan pines, and winding forest trails. It’s a favorite destination for nature walks and summer retreats.
Panoramic Views
From the mountain’s “phoenix shoulder” vantage point, visitors can gaze upon the snow-capped Cangshan range (点苍山) and look down at the Yangbi River (漾濞江) meandering like a jade belt. The landscape forms a scroll-like scene of "green hills surrounding, with water coiling through the heart."
?️ Historical and Cultural Imprints
Academy Heritage
During the Qing Dynasty’s Yongzheng era, a Temple to Marquis Wu (武侯祠) was built at the mountain’s foot, later transformed into the Huaping Academy (化平书院) and eventually known as Fengqing Academy (凤清书院). Some original stone inscriptions remain scattered in the area.
Preserved Landscape
In the 1930s, the original route of the Burma Road (滇缅公路) was planned to cross the mountain and river. However, after local petitions, the route was diverted, preserving the mountain’s natural form.
Red History
A revolutionary martyrs’ monument is built midway up the mountain, commemorating 90 individuals who gave their lives during the Anti-Japanese War and the founding of the People's Republic.
? Modern Development & Visitor Experience
Park Facilities
At the entrance stands a traditional-style gate. Inside the park, a Viewing Pavilion (望江亭) and a satellite communication base integrate the old with the new.
Visitors can choose between two scenic walking routes:
Right trail: leads up the mountain for panoramic views
Left trail: weaves through the forest
Both take around 1–2 hours to complete.
Year-Round Beauty
Spring: chorus of birdsong
Summer: lush greenery
Autumn: blazing red maple leaves
Winter: serene blue-grey mountain tones
Each season offers a distinct charm worth exploring.
