The village is situated 31 kilometers north of the town center of Danjia and 91 kilometers from Cangyuan County's center. It shares borders with Donglinganye Village to the east, Burma to the south, Mengdong Town to the west, and Danjia Village to the north. Despite its scenic beauty, the village remains relatively remote and undeveloped, making access challenging.

Overview and Cultural Significance

Gaduo Village is notable for its traditional Wa-style houses built with timber and asbestos shingles. Unlike the more modern cottages, these structures reflect the architectural heritage of the Wa people. Visitors to the village can still see old stone paths, mysterious totems, and stone boundary walls. The village is historically significant as one of the waypoints along the ancient Tea Horse Road, a major trade route dating back over 500 years. Gaduo offers a glimpse into a lifestyle that has changed little over the centuries, with older Wa women often seen with tobacco pipes and some still weaving traditional colorful cloth.

Agriculture and Development

In recent years, Gaduo Village has seen agricultural development, especially with the introduction of Buddha's hand citron cultivation. This initiative was part of a poverty alleviation campaign, and the fruit has become a significant source of income for the villagers. The planting area now covers 1,750 mu (approximately 116 hectares), led by village cadres and local farmers. The Buddha's hand citron orchards have become a demonstration area, enhancing the village's economic resilience. The 320-mu plantation base in Gaduo has set an example, achieving yields of around 9 tons and generating nearly 40,000 yuan in value. The community has also started intercropping corn, buckwheat, and other crops to maximize land use and income.

Gaduo Moon Ancient Village Scenic Area

Known as Gaduo Moon Ancient Village (嘎多月亮古寨景区), this AAA-level tourist site highlights the village’s historical and cultural significance. With over 500 years of history, it is called "Laigong" in the Wa language, meaning "Prosperous Place" or "Riverside Street." Historically, it was a hub for caravans and local trade. Gaduo's main village has 282 traditional Wa-style homes, making it the largest and best-preserved cluster of such homes along the border region. In 2016, Gaduo was listed in the "Chinese Traditional Villages" directory by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

This area is also known as the birthplace of the famous Wa song “The Moon Rises” and the song “The New Song of the Wa People.” Gaduo Moon Ancient Village promotes tourism through cultural activities, showcasing traditional Wa customs and festivals. The scenic area offers a comprehensive experience, including local food, accommodation, transportation, shopping, and entertainment, all while promoting eco-friendly and sustainable tourism.
