Guanyin Waterfall is one of the most spectacular sights during the hiking tour of Tiger Leaping Gorge. It is the largest waterfall encountered on the hike, located on the cliffs along the trail between Halfway Guesthouse in Bendiwan Village and Tina's Hostel in the middle section of Tiger Leaping Gorge. The waterfall gets its name from the nearby Guanyin Temple (观音庙), named after Guanyin, the East Asian bodhisattva associated with compassion and venerated by Mahayana Buddhists. Guanyin is commonly referred to as the "Goddess of Mercy" in English. The Guanyin Temple is situated just a few meters from the waterfall, hanging on the cliffs.
