    Gulv Yi and Bai Ethnic Village (昆明市西山区谷律彝族白族乡) is located in the northwestern part of Xishan District (西山区) in Kunming (昆明市), China. It is part of Tuanjie Township (团结镇), situated approximately 25 kilometers from the township government and 30 kilometers from the city center of Kunming. The area enjoys convenient road access, with asphalt-paved roads connecting it to the rest of Kunming. This village is bordered by Fumin County (富民县) to the east, Tuopai Village (妥排村) to the south, Duomu Village (朵亩村) to the west, and Fumin County (富民县) to the north.

    The village is home to 384 households, with a population of approximately 1,453 people. The primary economic activities are agriculture, with a focus on crops such as rice, corn, and various fruits, alongside traditional livestock farming.

    Gulv Yi and Bai Ethnic Village sits at an elevation of 2,100 meters, providing a cool and temperate climate. The average annual temperature is 19°C, and the village experiences an annual rainfall of approximately 1,150 mm, making it an ideal location for cultivating crops such as rice and corn. The region has 1,141 acres of arable land, including both paddy and dryland fields, as well as 16,355.4 acres of forested areas, making it rich in natural resources.

    Cultivated Land: 1,141 acres, with 448 acres of rice paddies and 693 acres of dryland.

    Forested Land: 16,355.4 acres, including 728 acres of economic fruit trees such as apples, plums, and peaches.

    Minerals: The village is rich in iron ore and concrete minerals, adding to its economic value.

    Infrastructure and Living Conditions

    As of 2006, Gulv Yi and Bai Ethnic Village has developed basic infrastructure to support its residents. This includes access to clean water, electricity, and paved roads. However, there are no streetlights within the village.

    Water Supply: All 384 households have access to tap water, though 23.7% (91 households) face water quality challenges.

    Electricity: All households have electricity, with 96% of households having a television.

    Transportation: The village is well-connected with paved roads leading to the township. Local transport includes public buses running from Kunming (昆明市) to Tuanjie Township (团结镇).

    Agricultural Infrastructure: The village has an irrigation system covering 712 acres, with an irrigation rate of 62.4%. Additionally, 669 acres of high-yield farmland have been developed.

    The village is equipped with 41 cars, 3 tractors, and 19 motorcycles, reflecting the level of mechanization in the area.


    Cultural Heritage and Ethnic Diversity

    Gulv Yi and Bai Ethnic Village is a unique blend of Yi (彝族) and Bai (白族) ethnic groups, which contributes to its rich cultural heritage. The village showcases traditional Bai architecture, particularly the "Three Halls and One Screen Wall" (三坊一照壁) style, which is commonly found in Bai villages. The Yi ethnic group (彝族) adds further cultural depth with its vibrant festivals, unique clothing, and traditional songs and dances.

    Ethnic Festivals:

    Yi Torch Festival (彝族火把节): A traditional celebration, typically held in the 6th lunar month, where locals light torches, sing songs, dance, and pray for good harvests. This is one of the most important festivals for the Yi people.

    Bai Three-Cup Tea Ceremony (白族三道茶): A ceremonial tea tasting experience in which guests taste three different teas, each symbolizing different aspects of Bai culture.

    Traditional Bai Architecture:

    The Bai (白族) people are known for their distinctive architectural style, which includes the "Three Halls and One Screen Wall" (三坊一照壁), a traditional home layout that features three halls arranged in a line and a decorative screen wall that separates the interior from the outside.

Visitors can enjoy hiking and refreshing walks along scenic paths while occasionally encountering Yi (彝族) song and dance performances.

    Moyu Reservoir (墨雨水库)

    This serene lake is surrounded by the ancient Moyu Village (大墨雨村), where traditional Yi (彝族) mud-brick houses are preserved. The quiet, picturesque setting is perfect for photography and offers a tranquil atmosphere for relaxation and slow living.

    By Car: From Kunming (昆明市) city center, head towards Heilinpu (黑林铺), then take the road to Qiongzhu Temple (筇竹寺), and finally reach Gulv Yi and Bai Ethnic Village (谷律村) in about 1 hour.

    By Bus: Take the tourist bus to Tuanjie Leju Ancient Village (团结乐居古村) and transfer to a local village bus.
