Haiyuan Temple in Xishan District, Kunming

Haiyuan Temple (海源寺) is located in Xishan District (西山区) of Kunming City (昆明市), Yunnan Province (云南省), approximately 10 kilometers from the city center. The temple was originally built during the Yuan Dynasty and was established by Tuo Huan Puhua, a prominent official of the Yuan Dynasty in Yunnan. The name of the temple is derived from the geographical feature of the source of Dianchi Lake (滇池), with the main water source coming from Longtan (龙潭) at the foot of Yuan'an Mountain (玉案山), which flows into the lake via the Haiyuan River (海源河).

The current structure of the temple, including the Grand Mountain Gate, Arhat Corridor, and Great Hall, was rebuilt in the 1990s. The temple is an important historical and cultural landmark in Kunming, attracting visitors for both its spiritual significance and beautiful surroundings.
