Geography

Huangmaoling (元阳县黄茅岭) is located in the southern part of Yuanyang County (元阳县), Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture (红河哈尼族彝族自治州), Yunnan Province (云南省). It is bordered by Ganiang Township (嘎娘乡) and Old Meng Township (老勐乡) of Jinping County (金平苗族瑶族傣族自治县) to the east, Old Jicai Township (老集寨乡) of Jinping County to the south, Ezha Township (俄扎乡) and Panzhihua Township (攀枝花乡) to the west, and Shengcun Township (胜村乡) to the north. The total area is 119.13 square kilometers. The乡government is located in Huangmaoling Village, 69 kilometers away from Yuanyang County Town (元阳县城).

Cultural History

Huangmaoling was once part of the ancient Nanmo region and was under the jurisdiction of Nanmo County during the Ming Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, it was part of Lincang Prefecture. In the Republic of China period, it was part of Jian shui County. In 1950, it was incorporated into Xinmin County. In 1956, it became part of Yuan Yang County. In 1972, Huangmaoling was established as a separate township. In 1988, it was renamed Huangmaoling Township.

Folklore
