Majiuyi Village in Dali City

Majiu Yi Village (马久邑村) is a Bai ethnic village located on the mid-western shore of Erhai Lake (洱海), Dali City (大理市), Yunnan Province (云南省). With its prime lake-and-mountain scenery, the village has become a hotspot for tourism investment. Since 2013, a cluster of hotels and guesthouses has rapidly emerged along its Erhai lakeshore, forming a continuous “seaside resort belt.” Together with Longkan Village (龙龛村), Cai Village (才村), Panxi Village (磻溪村), and Taoyuan Village (桃源村), Majiu Yi is now one of the glittering tourist gems on the lake’s western shore.

Well-known accommodations include, to the south: Haiqi No.7 (海栖七号), Yunqi (云起), Yunshui Xiaozhu (云水小筑), Haitian Zhilian (海天之恋), Shanshui Qingju (山水清居), and Wushe (无舍); to the north: Yuntu (云途), Haizhiyu (海之语), Yinhua (茵画), and Muxi (木西). Most are marketed as “lake-view rooms” and gained extra fame through popular films and TV series such as Heart Road Release (心花路放).

Location and Demographics

Majiu Yi Administrative Village is part of Yinqiao Town (银桥镇) in southern Yinqiao, 5 km from the town government and 3 km from Dali City. It is bordered by Erhai Lake to the east, Xiajiyi (下鸡邑) to the south, the Dali–Lijiang Road (大丽路) to the west, and Yangbo (阳波) to the north.

The village governs 14 villager groups, with 929 households and a total rural population of 3,685 (of which 3,675 are agricultural residents). There are 2,329 laborers, including 1,044 engaged in primary industries. The village covers 1.97 km² at an elevation of 1,976 m, with an annual average temperature of 15.4 °C and annual rainfall of 800 mm. The main crops are rice and broad beans. The total arable land is 2,832.46 mu, averaging 0.78 mu per person, with an additional 806 mu of forest. In 2006, the total economic income reached 135.54 million yuan, and per capita net income was 4,250 yuan, mainly from agriculture and fisheries.

Infrastructure

By the end of 2011, the village had 878 households with tap water, electricity, and cable TV. All 870 households owning televisions also had mobile phones. Access roads are paved with asphalt or concrete. The nearest bus stop or pier is 1 km away, and the nearest market is also 1 km away. The effective irrigated area covers 2,690 mu, all high-yield farmland.

Housing in 2011 consisted mainly of brick–wood structures (304 households), with no earth–wood houses.

Natural Resources

The village has 2,832 mu of farmland (2,690 mu paddy fields and 141.76 mu dry land), averaging 0.75 mu per person. The main crops are rice and broad beans. There is no forest or orchard land recorded in the statistics.

Rural Economy

In 2011, the village’s total rural economic income was 208.21 million yuan. Planting contributed 3.58 million yuan, animal husbandry 10.82 million yuan (including 1,500 pigs and 158 cattle sold), while secondary and tertiary industries brought in 182.53 million yuan, and wage income totaled 2.3 million yuan. Per capita net income reached 6,959 yuan, still primarily from agriculture and fisheries. Migrant work generated 1.7 million yuan, with 250 long-term migrant workers (200 within Yunnan, 50 outside).

The village is currently developing its characteristic industries, aiming to expand and strengthen them for future growth.

Population and Health

By 2011, Majiu Yi had 878 households and a rural population of 3,785 (1,887 males, 1,898 females), all agricultural residents. There were 1,926 laborers. Rural social pension insurance covered 1,600 people, and 3,670 villagers participated in cooperative medical care. Medical needs are mainly served by the village clinic (1.5 km from the village committee) and the town health center (5.5 km away). There are no households with mixed human–livestock living arrangements.

Village Governance

By the end of 2011, the village had signed 840 agricultural land contracts, covering 2,726.72 mu, with no land transfers recorded. A “One Matter, One Discussion” mechanism was in place for public welfare projects. Collective income and assets were recorded as zero, with democratic financial management carried out through public postings, blackboard notices, and meetings.

Education

Primary school students attend Majiu Yi Complete Primary School (马久邑完全小学), and junior secondary students attend Yinqiao No.1 Middle School (银桥镇第一中学). The primary school is 1 km away, and the middle school is 5 km away. As of 2011, there were 208 primary students and 105 junior secondary students.

The village has 14 Party groups with 153 members (111 men and 41 women) and 160 members of the Communist Youth League.
