Malong Cave in Hongta District, Yuxi

Longma Karst Cave (龙马溶洞) is located on the northern slope of Longma Mountain (龙马山) in the northeast of Hongta District (红塔区), Yuxi City (玉溪市), Yunnan Province (云南省), approximately 31 kilometers from downtown Yuxi.

History and Cultural Background

The cave was formed in Sinian strata around 600 to 700 million years ago. Over 10 to 20 million years ago, rainwater and underground water continuously dissolved and sculpted the limestone, gradually shaping the magical cave landscape we see today. The cave was discovered by three shepherd boys on May 28, 1981.
