Maoli Mosque in Yanshan County, Wenshan

Wenshan,Yanshan County

Maoli Mosque (茂力清真寺) is located in Pingyuan Township (平远乡), Yanshan County (砚山县), Yunnan Province (云南省). It was built around the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, with a history of approximately 250 years. The mosque occupies an area of 1.4 mu, with the main prayer hall built in classical Chinese style and covering a construction area of 200 square meters.

Historical Background

Maoli Mosque (茂力清真寺) was constructed around the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, making it approximately 250 years old. The mosque was known for its well-developed Jingtang Islamic education system and underwent reconstruction in 1976.

Scale and Structure

The mosque currently covers an area of 1.4 mu. Its main prayer hall follows a traditional Chinese architectural style and has a building area of 200 square meters. The total built-up area of the mosque complex is about 800 square meters.

Religious Activities and Cooperation

The mosque serves over 160 Hui households, totaling more than 1,100 people. There are 13 Ahongs (阿訇), 5 Mullahs (满拉), and 7 Islamic education administrators (Xuedong, 学董) serving in the mosque. The mosque houses 90 copies of the Qur'an (《古兰经》). Imam Ma Xin from this mosque has translated works such as A Concise Commentary on Islamic Jurisprudence (《教法简注》) and Islam (《伊斯兰教》).
