Geographic and Ecological Highlights

Location: Situated in the scenic Menglai Gorge of Cangyuan Wa Autonomous County, Lincang, Yunnan. Part of the 1,000-Meter Chinese Landscape Gallery scenic zone. Elevation ranges from 800 to 1700 meters.
Scale: Home to thousands of Kingia palm trees, some over a century old. These rare palms can grow 15–20 meters tall and are found throughout the region.
Rarity:
- A nationally protected plant (Class II) and a living fossil from the Jurassic period.
- Its feather-like leaves resemble peacock fans, and its hollow, straight trunks are striking.
- Caution: falling rocks may occur during the rainy season (July–September).

? A Geological and Botanical Wonder

The palms grow dramatically on steep limestone cliffs, coexisting with ancient cliff paintings and karst caves along a 20 km natural heritage corridor. Their bright green foliage stands in stark contrast with the rugged rock formations—perfect for photographers and nature lovers alike.

? Symbol of Wa Love and Spirit

Love Sanctuary: Known as the "Garden of Eternal Love," legend says couples walking through together will stay in love forever.
Cultural Totem: The upright, hollow trunks symbolize the resilient spirit of the Wa people, while dead palms entwined with living ones represent loyal love and companionship.

? A Living Fossil Discovery

The seeds require hot water treatment to germinate, and even when hollowed by age, these palms continue standing tall.
Coexisting with nearby sinkholes and the Sigangli cave system, the forest showcases the symbiotic evolution of life and stone over millennia.

On misty mornings, the forest and nearby stilted Wa villages form a surreal ink-wash painting.
From May to September, lush greenery and rising mist during the rainy season create a magical ambiance, as moss-covered cliffs highlight the vivid foliage.
