Waterfall Features

Scale & Impact
Standing approximately 35 meters tall and 5 meters wide, Měngmǎ Waterfall crashes down a steep cliff like a silver river from the heavens. During the rainy season (May to October), the flow intensifies with a thunderous roar, forming a 5–6-meter-deep semicircular emerald pool surrounded by jagged boulders.

Immersive Experience
As you approach the falls, mist fills the air, creating a chilling, cloud-like sensation. Within several dozen meters, the air feels thick with moisture — as if you're walking through the clouds.

Cultural Symbolism
Its name in the Dai language subtly refers to “a place where monkeys roam,” resonating with the untamed spirit of the surrounding tropical rainforest.

? Rainforest Secret Realm

Following the upper reaches of the Měngmǎ Stream, a 1.7-kilometer trail winds through a lush gorge adorned with hanging vines. The gently flowing stream forms several cascading drops from 1 to 10 meters high. Moss blankets the rocks, and ferns grow wild. The greenery is at its peak during the rainy season from May to September.

Along the way, bamboo sways in the breeze, birds sing, and fragrant flowers bloom — it’s a true “natural oxygen bar.”

Suggested Route

Main Trail
Parking Area → 400-meter shaded path (about 15 minutes, accompanied by rustling leaves and bubbling streams) → Main waterfall viewing zone
Extended Experience
On your way back, visit Měngmǎ Xiaozhài, a nearby Dai ethnic village, and enjoy local delicacies like lemongrass grilled fish and pineapple rice.

⚠️ Travel Tips

Safety
The stone paths near the waterfall are slippery — wear non-slip footwear. Do not climb the boulders near the pool; they are steep and dangerous.

Essentials
Insect repellent is a must during the rainy season. Due to fluctuating temperatures, pack a light jacket.

Please respect the environment — avoid carving on rocks or picking rainforest plants (e.g., cardamom).
