Founded: 135 BC (Western Han Dynasty) as a postal station. "Nagu" in Yi language means "fertile black soil."

Golden Age: During the Qing era, Dongchuan Prefecture produced up to 10 million jin (5 million kg) of copper annually, with 6 million transported via Nagu to Beijing—earning it the title "First Station of the Copper Road to the Capital."

Decline: Copper trade faded in late Qing, and Nagu became quiet again—yet preserved its Ming-Qing layout intact.

Today: Baiwu Village was named a “China Historic Cultural Village” in 2005; Nagu is a Provincial-Level Historic Town of Yunnan.
