Peacock Mountain Villa of Xishuangbannan Primitive Forest Park

Peacock Manor (孔雀山庄) is a resort attraction located within the Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park (西双版纳原始森林公园) in Jinghong City (景洪市), Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture (西双版纳傣族自治州), Yunnan Province (云南省). It opened in May 1999 and was renovated in January 2018. The resort features a tropical rainforest landscape and hosts daily peacock release performances, with over 3,000 white, green, and blue peacocks taking part in group flight displays.

After a 2007 upgrade to meet three-star standards, the manor offers 51 deluxe twin rooms, 2 deluxe single rooms, 6 deluxe suites, and 1 presidential suite. Facilities include a restaurant seating 500 guests, an ethnic barbecue area, a dance hall, and multifunctional conference rooms.

The centerpiece, Golden Lake (金湖), features the Prince Pavilion (王子亭) and Princess Pavilion (公主阁), where the legend of Zhao Shutun (召树屯) and the Peacock Princess (孔雀公主) is brought to life. The surrounding area is dotted with Dai-style architecture and lush ecological landscapes.

Recognized as the largest peacock breeding base in Southeast Asia, the manor uses artificial taming to create a harmonious coexistence between peacocks and their natural environment, making it a popular family travel destination in Xishuangbanna. In 2025, it operates from 10:30 to 21:00 (last entry at 19:00), offering basic services such as parking and luggage storage.

In 2007, the resort upgraded its 51 deluxe twin rooms, 2 deluxe single rooms, 6 deluxe suites, and 1 presidential suite to meet three-star standards. It has a restaurant for 500 diners, an ethnic-style barbecue area, a fully equipped dance hall, and multifunctional conference rooms, making it an ideal place for leisure, dining, accommodation, and entertainment.

To showcase Xishuangbanna's unique ethnic charm, the resort’s main design—created by Shanghai Jiao Tong University—features a 100-meter relief depicting the story of the Peacock Princess.

Golden Lake shimmers amid dense forest, with traditional Dai-style buildings nestled in the greenery. Peacocks display their plumage, ostriches sing in welcome, and sika deer frolic by the lakeside, embodying the theme of harmony between humans and nature.

Two pavilions—Prince Pavilion and Princess Pavilion—stand on the lake, marking the legendary meeting place of Zhao Shutun and the Peacock Princess Nanmunuona (喃木诺娜). Today, flocks of peacocks fly over the lake and stroll along its shores, reenacting the romantic tale.

As Southeast Asia’s largest peacock breeding base, the park is home to over 3,000 peacocks—white, green, and blue. They generally inhabit open savannas, shrublands, bamboo groves, and mixed forests below 2,000 meters in elevation, favoring areas near rivers and open clearings.

Here, peacocks are trained from a young age through artificial taming and whistle-based conditioning. When the park’s keepers blow the whistle, hundreds of peacocks glide from the forest across Golden Lake to feed along the shore.
