Shaochongjiao Revolutionary Martyrs Monument in Huize County, Qujing

Location

The Shaochongjiao Revolutionary Martyrs Monument (勺冲角革命烈士纪念碑, Sháochōngjiǎo Gémìng Lièshì Jìniànbēi) is located in the middle section of Hongtupingzi (红土坪子, Hóngtǔ Píngzi) in Shuangou Village (双沟村, Shuānggōu Cūn), Leye Town (乐业镇, Lèyè Zhèn), Huize County (会泽县, Huìzé Xiàn), Qujing City (曲靖市, Qūjìng), Yunnan Province (云南省, Yúnnán Shěng).

Historical Background

On April 18, 1950, bandit leaders Jin Changming (金昌明, Jīn Chāngmíng) from Weining (威宁, Wēiníng) and Lu Depai (陆德沛, Lù Dépèi) from Huize led over 100 bandits to rob six administrative villages, including Huohong (火红, Huǒhóng), Baishadi (白沙地, Báishādì), and Shaochongjiao. In response, the 3rd Company of the 32nd Regiment of the Sixth Column (边纵六支队32团3连, Biān Zòng Liù Zhīduì 32 Tuán 3 Lián) was ordered to encircle the bandits on April 25.

After five days of intense fighting, the forces succeeded in killing one squad leader among the bandits, eliminating over ten others, capturing four, seizing three rifles, and recovering over 20 stolen cattle and sheep, along with more than 2,000 jin (1,000 kg) of grain. This operation marked a significant victory in the campaign against the bandits. Seven comrades, including Yan Fulong (颜福龙, Yán Fúlóng), sacrificed their lives to ensure the safety of the local populace.

In May 1950, these seven comrades were posthumously recognized as revolutionary martyrs by the Huize County People's Government. The martyrs included:

• Yan Fulong (颜福龙, Yán Fúlóng): Born in 1923 in Luobu Ancient Town (罗布古镇, Luóbù Gǔzhèn), Huize County; participated in the revolution in 1948; served as a communicator in the 32nd Regiment.
• Yan Shengqing (颜盛清, Yán Shèngqīng): Born in 1928 in Luoye Town (罗业镇, Luóyè Zhèn); joined the guerrilla forces in 1949.
• Fan Chaoke (范朝科, Fàn Zháokē): Born in 1931 in Kuangshan Town (矿山镇, Kuàngshān Zhèn); became involved in the revolution in 1949.
• Gao Zhongfa (高忠发, Gāo Zhōngfā): Born in 1925 in Daibu Town (待补镇, Dàibǔ Zhèn); participated in the revolution in 1949.
• Chen Laosan (陈老三, Chén Lǎosān): Born in 1930 in Daibu Town; joined the revolution in 1949.
• Zhou Yingqi (周应启, Zhōu Yìngqǐ): Born in 1932 in Daibu Town; became involved in the revolution in 1949.
• Zhang Faron (张发荣, Zhāng Fāróng), also known as Zhang Fayun (张发云, Zhāng Fàyún): Born in 1930 in Daibu Town; joined the revolution in 1949.

To honor the martyrs and promote the revolutionary spirit, the Leye Town People's Government established the monument at Hongtupingzi in 1994 and relocated the graves of the six martyrs, except for Yan Fulong, to this site.
