Why is Shede Pasture So Special?

Shede pasture covers an area of more than 100,000 mu, and is the largest pasture in Yunnan Province. Shede舍得 is Yi language, meaning a place with low-lying land, ponds, mountain and valley. It is mainly famous for the pasture, plateau scenery, famous local products, strong ethnic customs and revolutionary bases. Terrain of the pasture is undulating, wild flowers are in bloom all over the mountain in spring. Standing on the top of Yangxiong mountain羊雄山 and looking east, you can have a panoramic view of Puzhehei普者黑 pastoral scenery. The pasture is developing recreational projects, such as Grass Skiing Field, Horse Race Field and Ancient Tea and Horse Road.

Shede pasture has a great potential for tourism resources. There are highland scenery of Yangxiong mountain羊雄山, natural grassland, artificial grass and other beautiful scenery. Due to the high altitude and cold climate, it is a good place for tourists to spend summer vacation and sightsee, and it is reputed as the "Small Shangri-la" of Wenshan Prefecture.

The Puzhehei Scenic Area is in Qiubei County of Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, 13 kilometers away from county seat. It is a charming fairyland boasting beautiful karst landscapes, lakes and the unique cultures of the Zhuang, Miao, Yi and Bai ethnic groups.

Best Time to Visit

The beat time to visit Shede pasture is from March to May to enjoy the flowers. In spring, wild flowers in bloom cover the whole pasture, making people relaxed and happy. And at that time, you can also avoid the rainy summer.

How to Get There

You have three ways to get to Shede pasture.

1. By Long-distance Bus

The long-distance route is Kunming-Qiubei County-Shede Yi Ethnic Town. When you are there in Shede town舍得乡, it is not far from shede pasture, you can take a taxi, chartered bus or just hike there.

There are regular buses from Qiubei Bus Terminal to Shede.

2. By Train

If you wanna take train, you should transfer in Puzhehei. It takes about 2 hours from Puzhehei Railway Station to Shede pasture by taxi or chartered bus.

3. By Air

You can fly from Kunming to Wenshan Puzhehei Airport first and then take a taxi to Shede pasture. There are daily flights, and the travel time is 50 minutes. It is about 143 kilometers from Puzhehei airport to Shede pasture, and the taxi fare is high. Therefore, this way costs more and is not recommended.

2. No matter what season you go to the pasture, you are supposed to bring the long-sleeved clothes and hat with you. The wind on the mountain top is strong, it is easy to catch a cold. 

3. Admission to Shede pasture is free.

4. In recent years, more and more tourists go to shede pasture, resulting in serious grassland trampling. The most important thing is garbage everywhere, please take away your own garbage when you leave.

5. It is 35 kilometers from Shede pasture to Puzhehei scenic area. You can drive to Shede pasture or take the regular bus from Qiubei丘北 to Shede舍得.
