Tonghai Mosque in Tonghai County, Yuxi

The Tonghai County Town Mosque (通海县城清真寺) is located in Tonghai County (通海县), Yunnan Province (云南省). It was initially built in 1985. The new mosque construction began in October 1989 and was completed in December 1990. Foreign Muslim visitors often come here specifically for prayers. Currently, the mosque serves 55 Hui Muslim households, totaling over 220 people.

Historical Development

Initial Construction

Originally, there was no mosque in Tonghai County (通海县). In 1985, local Hui Muslims raised funds to purchase an old 150-square-meter building, which was temporarily used as a prayer hall.

Renovation and Reconstruction

At the end of 1987, the first appointed Imam, Ma Guangneng (马广能), and the mosque committee organized fundraising, collecting over 300,000 yuan. With an additional 60,000 yuan subsidy from the local and county governments, they purchased land and began constructing a modern three-story mosque in October 1989. The project was completed in December 1990.

Architectural Scale

The Tonghai County Town Mosque (通海县城清真寺) features an Arabic-style dome on its rooftop. The main prayer hall covers an area of 100 square meters, while the entire mosque spans 1,425 square meters. The mosque also includes three rental shopfronts and a guesthouse with 20 beds, generating an annual income of approximately 8,000 yuan.

Exchange and Cooperation

Foreign Muslim visitors frequently come to the mosque for prayers. The local Hui Muslim community consists of 55 households with over 220 members.
