Location: Wenhua Town (Weishan City), Weishan County, Dali, Yunnan Province, China

Historical Background

Founding: The exact founding date of Weishan Mosque is unclear. In the 11th year of the Tongzhi Emperor's reign (1872), during a tragic event where Hui Muslims were massacred by Qing troops within the city, four mosques were destroyed in the conflict. In 1922, a residential house was converted into a place for worship and religious activities.
Reconstruction: In 1994, a new mosque was constructed in a separate location to accommodate the religious needs of the community.

Architectural Features

Size and Layout: The main prayer hall was officially completed with a single-eave gable roof (单檐敬山式), covering an area of 310 square meters. Including the surrounding area, the mosque occupies approximately 3 acres with a total construction area of 566 square meters.
Community: Weishan Mosque serves 57 households with over 300 people, all belonging to the Gedi clan of the Hui ethnic group. It is home to one imam (阿訇).

Cultural Significance

Historical Importance: Weishan is historically significant as the birthplace of the Nanzhao Kingdom and the source of the Du Wenxiu Hui Muslim uprising. It is designated as a national-level historical and cultural city with numerous cultural relics and scenic spots. The ancient city's unique architectural style adds to its charm.
