? History, Decline & Current State

The Golden Era (1990s–1999)

Once known as the “Green Emerald of Kunming’s Suburbs” (昆明近郊的绿翡翠), Xiaobailong Forest Park (小白龙森林公园) earned national-level forest park status in 1999. Over 30 domestic and international investors helped build over 600 ethnic-style villas inspired by China’s 56 ethnic groups, along with forest ballrooms, swimming pools, and tennis courts. Paired with Yangzonghai Lake (阳宗海), it was celebrated as “The Pearl and the Emerald of the Plateau.”

Decline & Abandonment (2013–Present)

In May 2013, a sudden wildfire fueled by resin-rich pines and alders severely damaged the park. Though the fire was extinguished, operations never resumed. Today, villas are swallowed by vines, swimming pools stand dry, and corridors have collapsed, leaving only a few caretakers. Some locals now call it “Kunming’s Silent Hill.”
