Xiaohuicun Mosque in Tonghai County, Yuxi

Yuxi,Tonghai County

According to oral tradition, Xiaohuicun Mosque (小回村清真寺) was first built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty.

Renovation and Reconstruction

Xiaohuicun Mosque (小回村清真寺) underwent multiple renovations and expansions. In the 1970s, a major earthquake struck Tonghai (通海), severely damaging the mosque, causing the prayer hall to sink. During the Cultural Revolution, auxiliary rooms, platforms, and preaching stages were destroyed or converted into storage facilities. After the mosque was returned to the community, villagers raised funds on their own to carry out repairs and expansions.
Renovations were conducted in 1972, 1975, and 1979. In 1983, five new prayer halls were added.

Architectural Layout

Xiaohuicun Mosque (小回村清真寺) currently covers an area of over 2 mu. The mosque comprises five prayer halls, six classrooms, three imam’s rooms, a bathing room, and a kitchen. Additionally, there are three wells within the premises, each with clear and sweet water. The layout of the mosque is harmonious, and the environment is serene and elegant.

Communication and Cooperation

The local community consists of 210 households and 1,204 residents, including 30 ahongs and 5 mosque managers (学董). Notable local hajj pilgrims include Na Xingfu (纳兴福), Na Guangting (纳光廷), Na Jinxiang (纳金祥), and Ma Jiewen (马介文).
The mosque houses a treasured plaque from the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, inscribed with the imperial “Hundred-Character Praise to the Sage” (至圣百字赞).
