XinYingpan Mosqure in Yangbi County, Dali

The history of Xinyingpan Mosque (新营盘清真寺) dates back to the Qing Dynasty. An inscription on a beam in the original main hall reads "Built in the 9th year of Xianfeng of the Great Qing" (1859), indicating that the mosque has a history of more than 160 years.

Reconstruction and Restoration

On April 21, 1989, a fire caused by residential electricity misuse destroyed the main hall and most of the mosque's buildings, with only 16 carved lattice doors salvaged.

In 1991, the local Hui (回族) community raised 270,000 yuan to rebuild the mosque. The project was completed in December 1992. The new main hall was constructed in a brick-and-wood structure that incorporated traditional architectural styles.

Historical Events

After the failure of the Du Wenxiu (杜文秀) uprising, the Qing government listed mosques on both sides of the Yangbi River (漾濞江) as "rebellious property." It was not until the Guangxu reign period that reconstruction was allowed.

Architectural Features

Structural Layout

The main hall features a double-eaved hip roof with a total width of 22.6 meters and a depth of 17 meters. The lower level stands at 5.3 meters high, with projecting eaves, interlocking brackets, and exquisite carvings that create a majestic atmosphere.

The mosque complex also includes wing rooms, a screen wall, and a dining hall, with a well-organized overall layout.

Decorative Arts

The original main hall had 14 lattice doors and two moon-shaped windows, all adorned with paintings, wood carvings, and reliefs, showcasing a high level of craftsmanship.

Cultural and Social Role

Religious Functions

As a significant Islamic site in Yangbi County (漾濞县), Xinyingpan Mosque (新营盘清真寺) serves as a key venue for local Muslims to perform daily prayers and celebrate religious festivals such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

Heritage Protection

In March 1988, the mosque was designated as a county-level key cultural relic protection unit by the Yangbi County People's Government (漾濞县人民政府).

Tourism Value

Due to its distinctive architectural style and rich historical background, Xinyingpan Mosque (新营盘清真寺) has become one of the key cultural tourism attractions in Yangbi County (漾濞县).
