Yuantong Mountain

• Yuantong Mountain, located in the northeastern part of Kunming on Luofeng Mountain, is renowned for its steep terrain and towering rocks surrounded by lush greenery. This picturesque setting has earned it the name "Luofeng Dykke Cui," and it is one of Kunming's Eight Scenic Spots. The mountain is home to the Kunming Yuantong Mountain Zoo, which houses over 500 species of rare animals and birds.
• Visitors can see a diverse range of wildlife, including monkeys, leaf monkeys, pandas, hornbills, lions, elephants, leopards, zebras, Yunnan tigers, wild cattle, wild elephants, peacocks, and red-crowned cranes. The Peacock Garden, in particular, stands out as a major attraction, representing a miniature version of Yunnan's "Animal Kingdom." The zoo also features an aquarium displaying various fish, adding to the park’s appeal.

• Yuantong Mountain is also known for its diverse array of flowering plants, including cherry blossoms, crabapple flowers, plum blossoms, camellias, osmanthus, peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, and orchids. Additionally, the mountain features pine, cypress, bamboo, and other greenery.
• Throughout the seasons, different flowers bloom in succession, creating a vibrant display of colors. March is especially notable when the crabapple flowers are in full bloom, drawing numerous visitors to witness the spectacular floral display. Cherry blossom viewing is a popular activity in Kunming, and the "Yuantong Flower Tide" is a highlight of the city’s scenic attractions.
• The mountain also boasts a range of amenities, including pavilions, terraces, towers, gardens, parks, an aquarium, and amusement facilities. The integration of animal exhibits with various types of flowers creates a comprehensive garden landscape. Situated in the city center, Yuantong Mountain is easily accessible and remains a significant tourist hotspot in Kunming.

Transportation

Bus: There are multiple bus lines that can reach Yuantong Mountain, including routes 4, 100, 101, 22, 83, A2, 92, 125, 187, 129, and others. Passengers can choose the nearest bus stop based on their location.

Subway: You can take Line 2 of the subway and get off at Chuanxin Gulou Station or Xiaocaiyuan Station, or take Line 4 and get off at Yuantong Mountain Station. After getting off, it's just a short walk to the main entrance or east gate of Yuantong Mountain.

Electric scooter or shared bicycle: Besides buses and subways, riding an electric scooter or using a shared bicycle to reach Yuantong Mountain is also a good option, as it's convenient and quick, and there’s no need to worry about finding a parking space.

Related Attraction

Yuantong Temple, located on Yuantong Street in downtown Kunming, is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Kunming, with a history of over 1,200 years. It is also the largest temple in the city. It was originally established during the Tang Dynasty in the Nanzhao period and was initially named Putuo Temple.

In the fifth year of the Dade era of the Yuan Dynasty (1301 AD), Yuantong Temple was officially built, with the Yuan Dynasty emperor issuing a "seal and commendation." The expansion project lasted for 18 years and was completed in the sixth year of the Yuan Dynasty under the Yanwu era (1319 AD). During the Ming Dynasty, Yuantong Temple was further expanded, and a new Hall of Enlightenment was constructed at the summit.

Yuantong Temple also underwent numerous renovations during the Qing Dynasty.
