— My Personal Travel Experience from Kunming to Dali
Traveling through Yunnan felt less like following a schedule and more like slowly discovering a different rhythm of life. With plenty of time in each place and a comfortable pace, this journey allowed me to truly experience the landscapes, culture, and everyday moments of southwest China.
Day 1–2 | Settling into Kunming & Discovering Local Life
After arriving in Kunming, I had time to rest and adjust on my own, which was perfect after a long journey.
The next day, we drove to Fuxian Lake, and I was immediately struck by how clear and calm the water was. It felt peaceful, far from the busy city. Later, we visited Luosiwan Market, where local life unfolds in the most authentic way—busy, colorful, and full of energy.
Day 3 | Natural Wonders Near Kunming
Today was dedicated to nature.
At the Stone Forest, I walked among towering limestone formations that looked almost unreal, as if shaped by imagination rather than nature. In the afternoon, we continued to Jiuxiang Scenic Area, where caves, rivers, and waterfalls came together. Taking a boat ride through the underground river was a highlight—quiet, mysterious, and refreshing.
Day 4 | High-Speed Train to Lijiang
We took a high-speed train from Kunming to Lijiang, which was smooth and comfortable.
In the afternoon, we explored Shuhe Ancient Town, calmer and less crowded than Lijiang Old Town. As evening came, we wandered through Lijiang Ancient Town, with lanterns reflecting on the canals and soft music filling the air. It was easy to get lost—in the best way.
Day 5 | Jade Dragon Snow Mountain & Ancient Villages
Standing beneath Jade Dragon Snow Mountain was one of the most unforgettable moments of the trip. Riding the cable car up to Spruce Meadow, I felt surrounded by snow peaks and wide-open skies.
The colors of Blue Moon Valley were stunning—bright turquoise water contrasting with the mountains behind it.
In the afternoon, we watched Impression Lijiang, an open-air performance that felt powerful and emotional. The day ended peacefully in Baisha Ancient Town, where life felt simple and unhurried.
Day 6 | From Lijiang to Shangri-La
Before leaving Lijiang, we stopped at Black Dragon Pool, where the reflection of the snow mountain in the water created a perfect postcard view.
On the way to Shangri-La, we visited Tiger Leaping Gorge. Standing above the roaring river, I truly felt the scale and power of nature.
That evening, walking through Dukezong Ancient Town, turning prayer wheels and breathing in the cool highland air, felt spiritual and grounding.
Day 7 | Tibetan Culture & Arrival in Dali
In the morning, we visited Songzanlin Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan. The architecture, chanting, and atmosphere left a deep impression on me.
Later, we traveled on to Dali. Strolling through Dali Ancient Town in the evening, then watching the sunset at Longkan Pier, I felt completely relaxed—just mountains, water, and silence.
Day 8 | Exploring Cangshan Mountain
Today we took a cable car up Cangshan Mountain. From above, Erhai Lake stretched endlessly below us, and the cool mountain air was refreshing. Hiking gently along the mountain paths, I realized how different Dali feels—open, calm, and full of light.
Day 9 | History and Villages Around Dali
The Three Pagodas were elegant and timeless, standing quietly against the mountains.
Later, we visited Xizhou, where traditional Bai courtyard houses still shape daily life, and Zhoucheng Village, known for its handmade tie-dye. Watching artisans at work felt genuine and uncommercialized.
Day 10 | Back to Kunming
We returned to Kunming by high-speed train and continued to Western Hills, where views over Dianchi Lake offered a gentle farewell to the journey.
Our final stop was Dounan Flower Market, vibrant and colorful—a lively contrast to the quiet landscapes we had seen earlier.
Final Days | Time at Our Own Pace
The last days in Kunming were free and flexible, allowing time to rest, explore independently, or simply reflect on the journey before departure.
