Yunnan Food Culture
What makes Yunnan distinctive is not only its extremely varied topography and climate, but also its demographics. Of the country’s 55 classified ethnic minorities, 51 can be found in Yunnan, and some live only in this province. Many have their own cooking styles, such as the hot and sour of Dai, and the spice-rich dishes of the Naxi from Lijiang. Many of these cooking styles are influenced by neighbouring regions and market demands, putting culinary provision into a state of flux.
