How Many Days to Spend in Jinping

Two Days

Two days are only suitable for a focused trip. Choose either Ma’andi Butterfly Valley or the Mengla–Jinshuihe area rather than attempting to visit both.

Three Days

A three-day, two-night tour is the minimum recommended arrangement for first-time visitors. It can combine Jinhe Town, Ma’andi Butterfly Valley and either Mengla Hot Spring or Jinshuihe.

How to Get to Jinping County

Jinping does not have an airport or railway station. Road transportation is required for the final part of the journey.

From Kunming by Car

Driving from Kunming (昆明) to Jinping generally takes a full day. The usual route passes through southern Yunnan toward Mengzi (蒙自) before continuing into the mountains.

Self-driving provides the greatest flexibility, but the final sections include long mountain roads with numerous bends and elevation changes. Drivers unfamiliar with mountain conditions should consider hiring a local vehicle with an experienced driver.

From Kunming by Train and Road Transfer

A convenient public-transport combination is to take a high-speed train from Kunming to Mengzi, then continue to Jinping by bus, private transfer or rental vehicle.

Jinhe Town
