On the first day, you’ll explore the Yuzhu Peak Bamboo Forest (玉竹峰) in Eshan County, discover the Yi ethnic culture in Xie’e Ancient Town (嶍峨古镇), and indulge in traditional Bamboo Feasts (全竹宴). On the second day, you’ll visit Longquan Park (龙泉公园) in Yimen County, where nature lovers can explore forests, lakes, and enjoy mushroom picking experiences.

Day 1 Bamboo Forest Exploration & Yi Ethnic Culture

Morning: Bamboo Adventures

Start your day by traveling from Hongta District to Yuzhu Peak (玉竹峰) in Eshan County. Here, you’ll enter the vast Bamboo Sea (万亩竹海), an expansive forest of bamboo, and learn about the bamboo growth process and its life cycle. Participate in making Bamboo Tea (竹茶) and take home your handmade creation. You will also experience the fun of making Bamboo Rice (竹筒饭), a traditional dish made using bamboo tubes.

Lunch: A Bamboo Feast

Enjoy a special Bamboo Feast (全竹宴) for lunch, where bamboo is incorporated into every dish, showcasing the versatility and flavors of this plant.

Afternoon: Yi Ethnic Culture & Heritage Exploration

Continue your journey to the ancient Xie’e Ancient Town (嶍峨古镇), where you can explore historic sites like the City Gate Tower (城门楼), Kuixing Pavilion (魁星阁), and Cuixiu Academy (翠秀书院). Learn about the rich and deep-rooted culture of the Yi ethnic group (彝族). Next, visit the Yuxi Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall (玉溪市非物质文化遗产展示馆) to discover the unique charms of Yuxi’s intangible cultural heritage. If you happen to visit during a festival, you may also have the chance to enjoy performances of traditional arts and crafts.

Dinner: Local Delicacies

For dinner, indulge in Eshan Steamed Dishes (峨山舂菜) and Eshan Huannian Roast Goose (峨山化念烤鹅), one of Yuxi’s Top Ten Famous Dishes (玉溪市“十大名菜”).
