2.Geographical Location

Qujing is a prefecture-level city located in the east of  Yunnan province. It is an important industrial city, about 130 kilometres away from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, and it lies in Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. It borders on Guizhou and Guangxi province in the east and Wenshan and Honghe in the south.

3.Introduction

4.History

Traces of human beings can be found along areas of Nanpan River date back to the old stone age. Ancestors of people in Qujing had been growing rice and creating civilizations on the land three to four thousand years ago. Qujing is place with convenient transportation. Qujing had become the place where culture of Central Plain and cultures of ethnic minority groups converge ever since Zhuangqiao, general of Warring States Period (475-221 BC) entered Yunnan and the construction of post road in Qin Dynasty(221-207 BC). During the historical changes in more than 2,000 years, distinctive cultures like Cuan culture, Langtang culture, Tongshang culture and ethnic customs.

The administrative division of Qujing City is simple, and it includes 3 district,  Qilin(麒麟), Malong(马龙), Zhanyi(沾益); 5 counties, Fuyuan(富源), Luoping(罗平), Shizong(师宗), Luliang(陆良), Huize(会泽); 1 county-level city, Xuanwei(宣威).

6.Ethnic Groups

It’s the second largest city by population after Kunming, among them, Han people accounts for a large percentage about 92% and the minorities population is 7% of the total population in Qujing. They are Yi, Hui, Miao, Zhuang, Buyi, Shui, Bai, Hani, Dai and Lishu who have their own language, costume, custom and beliefs. The charming folk customs attract many visitors all over the world. Qujing enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate, and the weather of the city is temperate and pleasurable throughout the year. The average temperature in coldest January and hottest July are respectively 14 and 19 degree centigrade (57.2 and 66.2 degree Fahrenheit). However, the temperatures never reach extremes. A trip to Qujing is recommended in Spring and Autumn as Summer rains frequently which result in a bad condition of roads. Due to the complex terrain, it presents a typical highland climate with great difference during a day and slight difference throughout the year.

Qujing is a significant industry city in Yunnan and its transportation is relatively developed compared to other cities in Yunnan except for Kunming. You can get there by different ways. There are planes, long-distance buses, trains, taxis, buses and minibus for people to get out and around.

Qujing dining culture enjoys a long history. Xuanwei Ham is renowned since Ming Dynasty with special flavor and exquisite technologies. Luliang dried salted duck, Qujing leek flower, Zhanyi spicy chicken also gain the good reputations in the world.

11.Top Attractions

The most renowned sightseeing is Luoping rapeseed fields, an endless golden flower sea and a terrific place for shooting. Nine Dragon Waterfall is also amazing with grand and magnificant view, consisted by different waterfalls in Luoping. Stretch your way to Caoshan Mountain, you will come across a large group of sheep and the local people. You can also explore the traditional culture in the Tumulus Group of the Eight Towers Platform and Nagu Ancient Town in Huize county.
