Districts
Municipal districts are one of the administrative divisions in China. It is the same as that of county-level cities, counties, autonomous counties, banners, autonomous banners, forest districts and special administrative zones. It belongs to the county-level administrative region and is under the jurisdiction of prefecture-level cities, municipalities directly under the Central Government and special administrative regions. China mainland has 963 municipal districts and Yunnan has 17 in total.
Establishment Standard of District
In cities with a total population of more than 3 million people, an average of 1 municipal district can be established for every 600,000 people. The smallest municipal districts shall have a population of no less than 250,000, of which the non-agricultural population shall not be less than 100,000. For the transformation of suburban counties (county-level cities) of central cities into municipal districts, the non-agricultural population of the employed population in the county (city) should not be less than 70%, and the proportion of the output value of the second and third industries in the GDP should be more than 75%.
