Kunming Changshui International Airport, located in Changshui village of Guandu district in Kunming city, is a 4F class civil transport airport put into operation on June 28, 2012, 24.5 kilometers northeast of Kunming city. It replaced the former Wujiaba international airport and becomes one of the China's top 10 airports. Currently, the airport has more than 40 airlines, providing flights to domestic, international and regional cities, including Beijing, Chengdu, Guilin, Lhasa, Shanghai, Sanya, Xi'an, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok, etc. Passengers can easily go to the city by air.

Airport Transportation

There are several ways to get to the airport. You can take the airport express bus, subway, city bus or taxi. Subway line 6 starting from Kunming East Bus Station can take you to Changshui airport. In addition, 6 airport express bus routes departing from Xiaoximen(West Inn/Kuming Nanjiang Hotel), Kunming Wujiaba/Kunming Railway Station/Kunming Jinjiang Hotel, North Bus Station, South Bus Station/Chenggong New Area/Howard Johnson Hotel, Dianchi hotel/West Bus Station and Kunming Railway Station respectively, are also available. You can take taxi as well, but taking a taxi costs the most.

Kunming is one of the most important transportation hubs in western China. By Subway 

Kunming Metro is still under construction. Now all lines of Kunming subway line 1, Kunming subway line 2, Kunming subway line 3 and Kunming subway line 6 have been opened.

By City Bus

By the end of 2018, Kunming bus group had operated 485 routes and 6,164 vehicles, carrying 2.1 million passengers per day. The bus network has covered the main roads, residential areas, stations, docks and commercial outlets, basically meeting the travel needs of citizens. All buses in Kunming are self-service ticketing buses, getting on in the front door and getting off in the back door. 1 yuan for normal buses and 2 yuan for air-conditioned buses.

Tips:

  • The stop time of public buses in Kunming is very short, tourists had better stand close to the door after boarding, so as not to delay getting off.
  • Recommended A1 bus tour line: ticket price is 2 yuan, running through all the famous scenic spots in Kunming.

By Taxi

The taxi fare during the daytime in Kunming starts at 8 yuan(within 3 kilometers), 2.5 yuan fuel surcharge is needed when paying. From 22:00 to 7:00, the starting price is 9.6 yuan(within 3 kilometers), and 1.8 yuan per kilometer is charged after 3 kilometers. If you want to take a taxi to Shilin, airport and other places, the road toll should be borne by the passengers themselves. In addition, you can also use the mobile app such as Didi to rent a car.
