How to Get to Xishuangbanna?

By Air 

Xishuangbanna Gasa International Airport, 5 kilometers from the downtown, is currently the largest airport in Yunnan province only second to Kunming Changshui International Airport. At present, there are domestic flights to Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, etc., and international flights to Bangkok, Luang Prabang and Chiengmai. There are at least 2 flights to and fro between Kunming and Jinghong per day and 6 to 10 flights per day during high season. The flight distance between Kunming and Jinghong is 520 kilometers which lasts 50 minutes.

Airport Transportation

Taxi and Bus

Xishuangbanna Gasa International Airport is 5 kilometers away from Jinghong City. You can take a taxi to downtown from the airport,the fare will not exceed 20 yuan. You can also take No.1 bus, but you need to walk about 500 meters to get on the bus at the gate of Jinghong Vocational High School (景洪职业中学). The bus departs at every 15 minutes, and the last bus leaves at 10 p.m from the airport. The fare is 2 yuan per person.

Airport Shuttle Bus

  • Airport-Jinghong downtown: You can buy a shuttle bus ticket at the arrival hall and get on the bus in front of the arrival hall. The bus will take you to the downtown area. The price is 4 yuan/person.
  • Jinghong downtown-Airport: The airport shuttle bus passes through Jinfeng Hotel bus stop, Caixin Hotel bus stop and Airport Expressway. It departs every 30 minutes from 7: 30 to 22: 00. If you want to go to airport by this bus, you can get on the bus at any of the stops.

By Train

Kunming-Mohan Railway, which will have an intermediate stop in Jinghong city, Xishuangbanna, will be completed in 2021. By then, visitors will be able to enjoy the sights along the railway by train.

By Long-distance Bus 

Xishuangbanna has relatively convenient road traffic. National roads 213 and 214 intersect in Jinghong city. All villages and towns are connected by roads, and there are three roads connecting Xishuangbanna to Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. There are three bus stations in Jinghong City: Jinghong Bus Station(景洪汽车客运站), Banna Bus Station(版纳客运站) and Jinghong South Bus Station(景洪客运南站), operating inter-provincial buses to Nanning, Chengdu and Hengyang, etc., as well as some international passenger buses to Laos and Myanmar.

By Mekong River Cruise and Ships

The Lancang-Mekong River is the main water channel connecting the ASEAN countries. There are three ports in Xishuangbanna, namely Jinghong Port, which is a national first class port, Guanlei Port and Ganlanba Port. Up to now, the international water passages have been opened to Myanmar, Vientiane of Laos, etc. From the north of Jinghong, ships at the Lancang River can take you to Ganlanba. Visitors can get to Jinghong city by ship from all the countries in Southeast Asia.

How to Get Around Xishuangbanna?

By City Bus

There are 9 bus lines running in Jinghong city, reaching most areas of the city and nearby villages, towns and tourist attractions, and the fare is 1-2yuan. However, buses returning from scenic spots in various counties and towns generally increase their fares by 1-3 yuan.

No.8 bus is a tourist bus line, which starts from Xishuangbanna Tropical Flowers Garden and the Primitive Forest Park at 8:00 a.m. every day. The last bus from Tropical Flowers Garden to Primitive Forest Park is 21:30 and the last bus from Primitive Forest Park to downtown is 22: 00.

There is good news for tourists who wants to travel between the scenic areas in and around the city, up to now, 7 Scenic Shuttle Bus Lines has been opened in Jinghong City, covering almost all the scenic areas in the city, including Gasa International Airport, Gaozhuang Xishuangjing and Wanda Tourism and Vacation Zone.

By Taxi or DiDi

It is easy to take a taxi in Jinghong city, and it won't cost you too much. If you take a taxi to destinations within the city, the fare won't exceed 30 yuan. The starting price is 8 yuan for 2km, then extra charge is 2 yuan/km, after the mileage exceed 5 kilometers, the exceeded mileage is charged for 3 yuan for each kilometer.

Note: From 22:00 a.m. to next 6:00 a.m, the starting price is 10 yuan, and the rental price is unchanged. Passengers shall pay the tolls through toll roads, bridges and tunnels. If the drivers don’t obey the rule, you may refuse to pay or complain to the company by call.

DiDi Car-hailing service  is also available in Xishuangbanna. Just download a DiDi App, then just input the address where you wanna go and where you're in, and submit the order, the driver who take the order will pick you up to your destination.

By Bicycle

Jinghong is a relatively small city, renting bicycles for sightseeing is also a good choice. There is no bike-sharing company providing the service, but you can rent one. Some hotels in Jinghong can offer bicycle rental service, and bicycles are also available at the gate of Jinghong Culture Square and Manting Park. You have to pay a deposit when renting a bicycle, ranging from 100 to 200 yuan depending on the condition of the bike. Some places can use ID card instead of the deposit. The rental fee is usually 8-10 yuan/day. In addition, tandem bicycle is not common in Jinghong.

By Private Car Rental
