Jinghong Transportation

Jinghong Transportation mainly relies on air plane, long-distance bus, connecting to major cities such as BeijingShanghaiGuangzhou, Xi'an,and Zhengzhou, etc. It has convenient air transportation to cities in Yunnan province such as Kunming,  DaliLijiang and Shangri-la. Passengers can take flights to get to Xishuangbanna Gasa International Airport, which is the second largest airport in Yunnan Province. National Highways No.213 and No.214 join in Jinghong, and 85% of the town roads here are paved with asphalt. Meanwhile, the international express highway from Kunming to Bangkok also passes the area. Express highway system is well-developed in the city that can reach Burma and Thailand. Besides, suburb buses, city-buses, bicycle and taxi bring a lot of convenient for tourists to go around the city.

How to Get to Jinghong?

By Air 

Xishuangbanna Gasa International Airport is the second largest airport in Yunnan, located just five kilometers from the downtown. Flights to Kunming, Shanghai, Chengdu and other major cities in China run regularly. There is one weekly international flight to Luang Prabang. Note that when booking a plane ticket to Jinghong, if it is not listed as "Jinghong" it may be listed as "Xishuangbanna".

Airport Transportation

Tax and Bus

Xishuangbanna Gasa International Airport is 5 kilometers away from Jinghong City. You can take a taxi to downtown from the airport,the fare will not exceed 20 yuan. You can also take No.1 bus, but you need to walk about 500 meters to the right from the airport and get on the bus at the gate of Jinghong Vocational High School (景洪职业中学). The bus departs at every 15 minutes, and the last bus leaves at 10 p.m from the airport. The fare is 2 yuan per person.

Airport Shuttle Bus/Bus

Airport-Jinghong downtown: You can buy a shuttle bus ticket at the arrival hall and get on the bus in front of the arrival hall. The bus will take you to the downtown area. The price is 4 yuan/person.

Jinghong City-Airport: The airport shuttle bus passes through Jinfeng Hotel bus stop, Caixin Hotel bus stop and Airport Expressway. It operates at every 30 minutes from 7: 30 to 22: 00. If you want to go to airport by this bus, you can get on the bus at the stops.

By Train

Kunming-Mohan Railway, which will have an intermediate stop in Jinghong city, Xishuangbanna, will be completed in 2021. By then, visitors will be able to enjoy the sights along the railway by train. 

By Long-distance Bus 

The city has the largest public transportation center in Xishuangbanna and connects travelers to nearby cities, towns and villages. The speedway from Jinghong to Menghai, Mengla, and Kunming.

There are over a dozen sleeper buses from Kunming daily, from around 9 am to 10 pm. The bus takes around 8 hours, and will travel over some bumpy dirt roads. Note that it may be a "sleeper bus" (lying down) even during the day.

This is the first big city for travelers coming from Laos, but most travelers will have to change buses in Mengla to get here. A direct bus from the border town of Mohan takes 3 hours.

By Mekong River Cruise and Ships

The Lancang-Mekong River enjoying the fame as 'the Danube of the East' flows through the area. Jinghong Port is the first grade national port in China, from which passengers can get to Burma, Laos, Thailand and other places aside the Lancang-Mekong River. Currently, Jinghong-Chiang Saen, Burma, and Jinghong-Vientiane, Laos, international waterways has been opened. Visitor can take Bus No.2 to the port directly for CNY2 per person.

How to Get around in Jinghong?

The few limited interesting parts of town are definitely walkable. Jinghong has plenty of tuk-tuks about. Hire these as a slightly cheaper way to get between places, but more than a kilometer or two and your butt might be sore all day.

Taxis run about ¥10-30 to places in downtown.

By City Bus

There are 9 bus lines running in Jinghong city, reaching most areas of the city and nearby villages, towns and tourist attractions, and the fare is 1-2yuan. However, buses returning from scenic spots in various counties and towns generally increase their fares by 1-3 yuan. No.8 bus is a tourist bus line, which starts from Xishuangbanna Tropical Flowers Garden and the Primitive Forest Park at 8:00 a.m. every day. The last bus from Tropical Flowers Garden to Primitive Forest Park is 21:30 and the last bus from Primitive Forest Park to downtown is 22: 00. There is good news for tourits who wants to travel between the scenic areas in and aroud the city, up to now, 7 Scenic Shuttle Bus Lines has been openned in Jinghong City, covering almost all the scenic areas in the city, including Gasa International Airport, Gaozhuang Xishuangjing and Wanda Tourism and Vacation Zone.

By Taxi or DiDi

It is easy to take a taxi in Jinghong city, and it won't cost you too much. If you take a taxi to destinations within the city, the fare won't exceed 30 yuan. The starting price is 8 yuan at the starting mileage of 2km, then every kilometer is charged 2yuan, after the mileage exceed 5 kilometers, the exceeded mileage is charged for 3 yuan for each kilometer. Night fee: from 22:00 a.m. to next 6:00 a.m, the starting price is 10 yuan, and the rental price is unchanged. Passengers shall pay the tolls through toll roads, bridges and tunnels. If the drivers don’t obey the rule, you may refuse to pay or complain to the company by call.

DiDi Car-hailing service  is also available in Xishuangbanna. Just download a DiDi App, then just input the address where you wanna go and where you're in, and submit the order, the driver who take the order will pick you up to your destination.

By Bicycle

Jinghong is a relatively small city, renting bicycles for sightseeing is also a good choice. There is no bike-sharing company providing the service, but you can rent one. Some hotels in Jinghong can offer bicycle rental service, and bicycles are also available at the gate of Jinghong Culture Square and Manting Park. You have to pay a deposit when renting a bicycle, ranging from 100 to 200 yuan depending on the condition of the bike. Some places can use ID cards instead of the deposit. The rental fee is usually 8-10 yuan/day. In addition, tandem bicycle is not common in Jinghong.

By Private Car Rental
