4 Days XishuangBanna Hiking Tour to Ganlanba Basin and Mekong River

The Ganlanba Basin, known as “the Plume of the Peacock”, is located 34 kilometers southeast of Jinghong City. Metaphorically speaking, if Xishuangbanna is a green peacock, then the Ganlanba Basin is the tail of the peacock. With green trees all the year round and bamboo houses scattered around, the place is very attractive. In this tour, you will hike through tropical rainforst and rubber plantations to visit several ethnic villages, living with them to fully appreciate their daily lives and colorful ethnic cultures.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Jinghong-Ganlanba-Aini Village

At 8:30 AM, we take a minibus to Galanba. The drive takes approximately 1 and a half hours. Our destination is a medium-sized Aini village. From there it’s a beautiful 4 hours walk along a small trail in rubber plantation and nice rainforest to an small Aini village inhabited by only 30 families. The first night we will rest in the traditional home of a very hospitable Aini people’s family. 

Day 2 Aini Village-Mekong River

We face uphill and downhill 5 or 6 hours walks through dense jungles, rubber plantations, Mekong River and mountain rice fields. The night of the 2nd day will be spent in a hillside Aini people’s village that offers ravishingly beautiful views down into misty valleys. Before reaching our overnight destination we will have 1 hour going down hill in rubber plantation, 1 hour walking along Mekong river, 30 minutes boat trip on Mekong river by ferry boat and then walk up hills for 1 hour and 2 hours walking in the dense jungles. 

Day 3 Mekong River-Aini Village

We also face uphill and downhill 6 hours walking including 2 hours walking through a stream with forests and more walking in rubber plantation or easy road. Have a picnic lunch in the forest. We will spend overnight in a hillside Aini people’s village. 

Day 4 Aini Village-Dai Village-Jinghong

An easy 3 hours walk downhill to a Dai village. We will have lunch in a Dai people ‘s restaurant. Our journey ends with a 1 hour drive by public bus back to Jinghong.
