Shengcun Middle School was originally established in 1968 as a branch of the Hongfeng Commune Primary School (红锋公社小学) with middle school classes. It became an independent school in 1978 and was renamed Yuanyang County No. 6 Middle School (元阳县第六中学) in 1979. In time, it was renamed to its current name.
