Yunnan Administrative Divisions

Yunnan Province, located in the far southwest of China, is known for its rich ethnic diversity and unique geography. It is divided into 16 prefectural-level divisions, which include 8 prefecture-level cities and 8 autonomous prefectures that are home to a variety of ethnic minority groups. Notable cities include the provincial capital Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, and Shangri-La, each of which plays a key role in the region's cultural and economic life.

Yunnan is particularly notable for its autonomous regions, such as the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, where the Dai people live, and the Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, home to the Yi people. These regions have administrative structures designed to preserve the customs, languages, and traditions of the various ethnic groups.

At the county and district level, Yunnan has numerous smaller divisions, each contributing to the province's overall diversity. Yunnan is also known for its natural beauty, with mountains, rivers, and forests that form part of the Southeast Asian biodiversity hotspot. It shares borders with Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar, which influences both its culture and economy.
