    Overview of Xiyang Yi Ethnic Town

    Located in the southwestern part of Jinning County, Xiyang Yi Ethnic Town shares borders with Luohhe Township (洛河乡) in Yuxi City (玉溪市) to the east, Dianzhong Town (甸中镇) in Eshan County (峨山县) to the south, Shijie Township (十街乡) in Yimen County (易门县) to the west, and Yiliu Street (一六街) and Shuanghe Yi Ethnic Township (双河彝族乡) to the north. The town covers a total area of 154.75 square kilometers (km²) and is located 60 kilometers from the center of Jinning District.

    Historical Development

    Before 1950: Part of Kunyang County (昆阳县), Ninth District.

    1958: Established as Xiyang Commune (夕阳公社).

    1983: Reorganized into Xiyang Yi Ethnic Township.

    1984: Renamed as Xiyang District.

    1988: Restored to Xiyang Yi Ethnic Township.

    Geographic Features

    Xiyang Yi Ethnic Town features a mountainous terrain, with Lei Da Mountain (雷打山) in the north as its highest peak, reaching 2,569 meters above sea level. The town’s elevation varies from 1,340 meters to 2,569 meters, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys. The town is predominantly made up of mountains, and the largest rivers in the area include Sanxiang River (三香河) and Bahe River (扒河).

    Climate

    Xiyang Yi Ethnic Town enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate with mild temperatures throughout the year. The average annual temperature is 18.5°C, with the hottest month being July, with an average temperature of 19.7°C. The coldest month is January, with an average temperature of 8.3°C. The region experiences a marked wet season from May to October, with the highest rainfall occurring from June to August.

    Hydrology

    The town is home to five major river basins: Sanxiang River (三香河), Bahe River (扒河), Dabaiyi River (大摆衣河), Qian River (前河), and Ganguo River (干沟河). The Bahe River is the largest, flowing through much of the region.

    Yi Ethnic Festivals
