How to Get to Deqin County from Kunming

Deqin County, also called Deqen County, located  in the northwest of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. 80% of its 55,000 inhabitants are Tibetan. Throughout its years of development, local endeavors for advancement have been rewarded with a great rise in area living standards. Nowadays, this is a tourist destination, however, the transportation is not very convenient.

How to Get to Deqin County from Kunming?

By Air

There is only a small regional airport, Diqing Shangri-La Airport (DIG) located about four kilometers (2.49 miles) southeast of Shangri-La County and serves the airlines traveling to Kunming. After getting to Shangrila, tourists can take the shuttle bus to Deqin or rent a car to.

By Coach

There are two ways of getting to Deqin from Kunming by coach. At Kunming West Bus Station, tourists can take the long-distance bus to Deqin county which departs at 19:00 with the duration of 23.5 hours. Alternatively, taking a coach from Kunming West Bus Station to Shangrila Bus Station and then transfer to Deqin county is also available. The departure time is 09:30, 14:00, 19:00(sleeper bus), 20:00(sleeper bus), 20:30(sleeper bus). The journey is about 9.5-15.5 hours.

By Train

At present, there is no railway connecting Deqin with Kunming. The Yunnan-Tibet Railway under planning stretches to Lhasa in Tibet from Kunming in Yunnan Province. After the completion of Yunnan-Tibet Railway, it’s more convenient for tourists traveling from Kunming to Deqin County.
