Dawei Mountain Nature Reserve is located in the common border of the Pingbian County and Hekou County of the Yunnan Province. To its south, it is Vietnam. To its north, it is the seat of the Pingbian County, Yuping Town. The total area of the reserve is 650,000 mu and its percentage of forest cover is more than 81.5 percent. The scenery of the reserve is very beautiful and charming. Since it is on the Tropic of Cancer, it is also called the Green Pearl on the Tropic of Cancer.
Dawei Mountain Scenic Area consists of one zone (Dawei Mountain zone) and two lines (Yunnan line of the Yunnan Vietnam Railway and the Xinxian River line) or 19 scenic spots. Its total area is more than 50 square kilometers. The sceneries of the area include relatively complete tropical and subtropical virgin forests, diversified plants and animals and rare plants and animals. It is a green area all the year round. Its folk customs and cultures are also very attractive. Due to the green mountains, crystal stream water, colorful folk customs and unique landscapes, the Dawei Mountain Scenic Area is like a wonderland given by the nature to the human. The road to the national-level border trade port Hekou Port passes through the scenic area. It was July 1992 when the Daweishan Mountain National Forest Park was opened, with the blessing of the Ministry of Forestry. The reserve, also known as the “Green Pearl on the Tropic of Cancer,” occupies a vast 650,000 square meters of land. Its lush forests occupy more than 80% of the area.
