Development History

After years of careful planning, the South Asian Style First City opened in 2012, offering a blend of leisure, shopping, and entertainment, rapidly becoming a favorite among Kunming’s residents. However, as its fame grew, it began facing competition from other theme-based commercial developments. The key challenge for the city now is to maintain and enhance its core value amidst this increasing competition.

Commercial Model Innovation

In response to the growing competition, South Asian Style First City needs to continually innovate and adapt, incorporating new business models and marketing strategies to stay ahead. The city’s strategic positioning, along with the introduction of global commercial concepts, will be key in retaining its appeal.

Food Recommendations

Signature Seafood Fried Rice (招牌海鲜炒饭)

  • With rich ingredients like pineapple (菠萝) and seafood (海鲜), this dish is absolutely delicious.

Curry Crab (咖喱蟹)

  • A rich curry flavor, best paired with bread for dipping. I recommend mixing it with rice for an even better experience— it’s so good you’ll want two bowls.

Green Papaya Salad (青木瓜沙拉)

  • Spicy, so avoid if you can’t handle heat.

Tom Yum Soup (冬阴功汤)

  • Authentic flavor and ingredients, offering a great Thai experience.

Lettuce-wrapped Beef (生菜包牛肉)

  • The beef is perfect when mixed with rice.

Grilled Pork Neck Meat (炭烤猪颈肉)

  • The pork didn’t stand out, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

Durian Pancake (榴莲薄饼)

  • The durian flavor is faint; turning it into an Indian-style flatbread might make it better.

Water Spinach (空心菜)

  • Just your typical water spinach, but still enjoyable.

Additional Tips

Street Food (小吃街):
I tried fatty intestine rice (肥肠饭) and rice noodles (饵丝). Though they looked good, the taste was average, and I couldn’t remember the names. For authentic Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles (过桥米线), visit Shangshunhao (尚顺号).
Since I was alone, I didn’t try too much. I bought a few pens at MUJI (无印良品) in Wanda Plaza (万达广场) before heading home.

Bookstore Visit (逛书店):
If you love books, don’t miss Chunxiao Bookstore (春晓书店), where you can discover various great titles.
