Jinggu County Festivals and Events

As of the end of 2016, Jinggu Dai and Yi Autonomous County is home to 26 ethnic groups including Han, Dai and Yi, with a population of 149,800. In the same time, the festivals and activities in Jinggu County are diverse.

1.Dai Water-Sprinkling Festival(傣族泼水节)

The Dai Water-Sprinkling Festival is a New Year's Day for the Dai, and the proverb is called "Jinbimai", which is held every year in the first month of the Dai calendar (mid-April of the Gregorian calendar).

2. Yi Torch Festival (彝族火把节)

It is a grandest event of Yi ethnic minority. Local Yi people will celebrate it on the 24th day of lunar June. They gather and collect torch together into an burning tower, then sing and dance around the torch tower.

3. Sand Pile Activity of Mengwo Temple in Jinggu County (景谷县勐卧总佛寺堆沙活动)

On April 15th, it was the last day of the 1375 calendar. In the early morning, the Buddha, Anzhang, and elders in the Mengwo Zongfo Temple gathered together to gather sand. The villagers also came to help, hoping to pass through the Sand Pile Activity, avoiding disasters and pains, in order to find a warm and harmonious family, auspicious life.
