Central Yunnan

Central Yunnan mainly refers to Kunming, Chuxiong and Yuxi. Kunming is the capital and largest city in Yunnan Province, also the political, economic, communications and cultural centers of the province, facing Southeast Asia, South Asia and even the Middle East, southern Europe and Africa. Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture (楚雄彝族自治州) is named after the Yi ethnic minority that live in the area. The Yi is one of the largest ethnic minorities in China, and is spread throughout the southwest. Yuxi is rich in crops and tobacco leaves, hence its honor ‘Barn of Middle Yunnan Province’ and ‘Hometown of Yunnan Tobacco’. Not far from Yuxi city is Fuxian Lake, which is the second-deepest lake in China.
