Dazhuang Mosque, located at the southern end of Dazhuang Street in Dazhuang Township, Kaiyuan City, Yunnan Province, is a significant historical and cultural site. Initially built during the Ming Dynasty, it was reconstructed in the 17th year of the Qing Emperor Jiaqing’s reign (1812). The mosque covers an area of 9450 square meters with a building area of 4179 square meters. It follows the Gelugpa sect of Islam.

Historical Background

Founded during the Ming Dynasty, Dazhuang Mosque underwent major reconstruction during the Qing Dynasty under Emperor Jiaqing in 1812. Its historical importance and architectural integrity led to its designation as a protected cultural relic of Yunnan Province in 1998.

Architectural Features

The mosque complex includes the main prayer hall, side wings, minaret, hall, library, ablution facilities, imam’s residence, and entrance gate. The main prayer hall features a single-eave gable roof with bracketed wooden structure, spanning five bays by three bays deep. The minaret is particularly notable, with its three-tiered eaves and soaring architecture.
