Cultural History
Chunhe Subdistrict derives its name from Chunhe Village (春和村). During the early Ming Dynasty, it was called Handong Village (寒冬村) due to its cold climate. In the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Chunhe, symbolizing “the arrival of spring after winter.” In September 1952, it was designated as the Sixth District, marking its first independent administrative division. In July 1966, it was reorganized into Chunhe People’s Commune and Maqiao People’s Commune. In February 1970, Maqiao was merged into Chunhe People’s Commune. In January 1984, Chunhe People’s Commune became Chunhe District, and in January 1988, it was renamed Chunhe Town. On March 7, 2011, Chunhe Town was officially upgraded to Chunhe Subdistrict.

The character “旗” (banner) was later mistakenly written as “棋” (chess). Historically, the area belonged to Xiuna County (休纳县) of Xinxing Prefecture (新兴州) during the Yuan Dynasty, Yunnan Zhongwei Wu and Guangnan Wei (云南中卫伍及广南卫) during the Ming Dynasty, and Zhonghe and Guangyi villages (中和、广义乡) of Xinxing Prefecture during the Qing Dynasty. On December 24, 1949, it was established as Zhongguang District (中广区) of Yuxi County, and after several administrative adjustments, it was officially renamed Liqi Subdistrict on March 7, 2011.

The history of Yanhe Subdistrict can be traced back to 937 AD during the Later Jin period of the Five Dynasties, when it was established as Yanhe Qianhusuo (研和千户所) under the Dali Kingdom. In 1276 during the Yuan Dynasty, it became Yanhe County (研和县) under Xinxing Prefecture (新兴州). In 1386 during the Ming Dynasty, it was incorporated into Xinxing Prefecture. During the Qing Dynasty in 1683, Dongshan Village’s Wang Feng was appointed as the local magistrate with his office located in Dongshan Village (东山村). In the Republican era, it underwent several administrative changes before becoming Yanhe Commune in August 1958. After several transitions, it was officially established as Yanhe Subdistrict in March 2011.

History and Culture
Phoenix Street has a long history and profound cultural heritage. Before 1983, its territory belonged to Yuxi City’s Chengguan District. In 1988, it was part of Zhouzhen Town. After the cancellation of Zhouzhen Town on December 28, 1998, Phoenix Road, Yuxing Road, and Yudai Road streets were established in January 1999. In March 2011, Phoenix Road Street was renamed Phoenix Street.
Folklore
Phoenix Street is one of the important inheritors of folk culture in Hongta District, Yuxi City. It has a variety of folk activities, such as the Rice Noodle Festival (迎土主), a traditional festival of the local Han people that started in the Qing Dynasty and has been passed down to this day. During the festival, people eat rice noodles and sing lantern songs. In addition, Phoenix Street still retains strong Hakka rural characteristics, with Hakka folk songs and wedding customs well preserved.

The subdistrict office is located at No. 55 Yuxing Road (玉兴路), only 0.8 kilometers from the district government and 88 kilometers from Kunming (昆明), the provincial capital.
History and Culture
Yuxing Subdistrict (玉兴街道) boasts a long history and rich cultural heritage. In the first year of Shangyuan of the Tang Dynasty (760 AD), the area was under Wenfuzhou (温富州). In the 13th year of Zhiyuan during the Yuan Dynasty (1276), the state governance was established here. Throughout the Ming, Qing, and Republican eras, it served as the administrative seat of the state and county. On December 28, 1998, the original Zhoucheng Town (州城镇) was abolished and reorganized into three subdistricts: Yuxing Road (玉兴路), Yudai Road (玉带路), and Fenghuang Road (凤凰路). In March 2011, Yuxing Road Subdistrict was renamed Yuxing Subdistrict.
