3 Days Yi Ethnic Minority’s Hualian Festival Tour Held in Puzhehei

Hualian means to enforce somebody to wear collies. Hualian Festival is special of Yi Minority in Qiubei County, Wenshan Prefecture. Yis there also claim themselves to be Sani branch like that in the Stone Forest. Yi ancestors in Qiubei were said to wear black collies on their faces to drive away evil spirits thus Hualian Festival was brought forth, and it has become a golden opportunity for young generation to develop new romances because they could, on that day, “mark the faces” to express love.

Day 1 Kunming-Puzhehei

Sightseeing and Activities:Boat Cruise, Qinglongshan Mountain, Torch Cave and Kwan-yin Cave, Local Show

This morning, drive to Kunming train station, then take the speed train to Puzhehei. After arrival, drive to Puzhehei Scenic Resort,  take a small boat to visit the Karst landscape and lakes, enjoy the local rurality. During your boat cruise, you will see large scale of lotus flowers on the lake. Then disembark at the Qinglongshan wharf and climb Qinglongshan Mountain to see the panorama of Puzhehei. After that, walk to visit the Torch Cave and Kwan-yin Cave. 

In the evening, you will watch a local show performed by ethnic minorities, such as Yi Minority, Bai Minority and Yao Minority. 

-Puzhehei in northwest Qiubei County is a fairyland from which visitor can have a panoramic view of clear lakes and pond full of lotus, emerald mountains and enchanting karst landscape. This charming country is also an ideal place to view the pomp in festivals of the Yao, Miao, Huang and Yi minorities. July to August is the best time to admire the most beautiful country landscape of Puzhehei, because the lotus blossoms are in their florescence.

Day 2 Puzhehei

Swan lake in Puzhehei, Wenshan

This morning, visit some villages in the scenic area to experience local life. Then visit the “Swan Lake” and watch the “Release of Swans”. 

After lunch, drive to Bijiashan Mountain(笔架山) to attend the “Opening Ceremony of Hualian Festival”.  Then watch the local shows. After the shows, you will start to join the carnival group to celebrate Hualian Festival. People will paint the faces of other people for them to express best wishes by daubing straw ash on face to get good luck.

After the celebration, drive back to hotel. 

Day 3 Puzhehei-Kunming

This morning, you can trek about 5 km to visit Caihuaqing(菜花箐), a quiet , rustic and ecological village where Miao minority people live.  After lunch, drive to Puzheihei train station and take the speed train to Kunming City. Service ends.
