Planting history
Legend has it that as early as the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty(明代洪武年间) (1368-1398 AD), the monks and nuns (僧尼)of Biyun Temple(碧云寺) in Changning County planted tea with good quality ,Known as “Biyun Xian Tea”(“碧云仙茶”).In the Ming(明) and qing(清) dynasties,there was another development. an ancient tea tree in the hot spring town(温泉乡) near Nino Mountain(尼诺山),which has been cultivated more than 200 years . By the 1920s and 1930s, farmers began to grow tea ,but due to the inconvenience of transportation and backward technology ,lead to development is slow. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China(中华人民共和国), the people’s government gave full play to the advantage of suitable tea in 70% of the county and vigorously developed the production of tea. By 1990, the area of tea garden in the county had reached more than 110,000 mu(亩). In 1983, Changning County (昌宁县)was recommended to join the tea technology promotion network of seven provinces and cities. In 1985, it was listed as one of the four high-quality tea base counties in China, which are equally famous with Fuyang in Zhejiang(浙江富阳), Anxi in Fujian(福建安溪) and Yuexi in Anhui(安徽岳西).

Ninuo tea(尼诺茶) is carefully selected spring tea “one bud and two leaves”(“一芽二叶”) of fresh leaves, it is elaborately made by various procedures .According to identification, the amino acid(氨基酸) content of Ninuo tea(尼诺茶) is 382.9 mg/g, about 40% higher than that of the same big-leaf tea(大叶茶), the water extract(水浸出物） is 48.41%, Catechin(儿茶素) is 145.8 mg/g.Drinking Ninuo tea(尼诺茶) can produce saliva and quench thirst(生津止渴), excitement and refreshing(兴奋提神), regulate blood pressure(血压), promote fat digestion, prevent nitrite(亚硝酸) synthesis in the human body;can digest food and strengthen stomach(消食健胃), clear eyes and clear heart(明目清心),it is known as “fitness and beauty tea” (“健身美容茶”.

Changchongshan Mountain Ecological Park (长虫山生态公园) is located at the intersection of Longquan Road (龙泉路) and the northern section of Panlong River (盘龙江) in Wuhua District (五华区), Kunming (昆明). Known also as Snake Mountain (蛇山), it features distinctive topographical characteristics that showcase a rugged individuality. The mountain is largely bare, with few trees, and is covered primarily with grass, alongside stones resembling sheep grazing leisurely under divine care. The arrangement of these stones creates a unique harmony within the natural landscape.
The park lies within the jurisdiction of Hongyun Street Office (红云街道办事处) and Shalang Township Government (沙朗乡政府), bordered by Longquan Road to the east and the northern section of Panlong River to the west, with the West Baisha Reservoir (西白沙河水库) nearby. It serves as another mountain retreat for panoramic views of Kunming city, following the West Mountain Park (西山公园), making it an excellent destination for fitness and outdoor activities. The mountain resembles a giant stone python resting in the northern suburbs of Kunming.
Changchongshan Mountain is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly for hiking and climbing, as it is situated far from the water surface of Dianchi Lake (滇池). The unique lava topography of the mountain attracts many mountaineers. On holidays, colorful camping tents dot the landscape, adding a charming touch to the scene. The steep cliffs on the western side of the mountain provide a spacious area suitable for paragliding activities. Due to the sparse tree coverage, the area offers wide views, making it ideal for various leisurely outdoor sports.
The most beautiful seasons to visit Changchongshan Mountain are spring and summer when the tender green grass and the scattered unique stones create a distinctive landscape.

Changchongshan Mountain Ecological Park and the scenic forest area are situated along Longquan Road and the northern section of the Panlong River, adjacent to the West Baisha Reservoir. The ecological park spans 50 hectares, while the scenic forest covers 190 hectares.
During a one-day trip in Kunming, I planned to visit two must-see attractions: Changchongshan Mountain Ecological Park and the Kunming Animal Museum.

Mazongling (马鬃岭) rises to an elevation of 4,247 meters, located approximately 190 kilometers from Kunming (昆明). Nestled between Xueling (雪岭) at 4,344 meters and Jiaozi Snow Mountain (轿子雪山) at 4,223 meters, the mountain range resembles the mane of a horse when viewed from a distance. The difficulty of the ascent lies in navigating the broken rocky paths with steep elevation gains and losses, culminating in the narrow knife-edge ridge at the summit. Located on the southeast slope of Jiaozi Snow Mountain, Chanfang Village (炭房村) in Hongtudi Town (红土地镇) in Dongchuan District (东川区) is home to three peaks exceeding 4,000 meters: the renowned “First Peak of Central Yunnan” and “Roof of Kunming,” Xueling, rising at 4,344 meters, Jiaozi Snow Mountain at 4,223.4 meters, and Mazongling at 4,100 meters. These three high mountains attract thousands of adventurers every year.
Additionally, Chanfang Village features stunning scenery, including thousands of acres of rhododendrons and grasslands. In May, the massive trees of rhododendron bloom in a spectacular display, captivating visitors.

Hiking the Two High Peaks of Central Yunnan — Xueling and Mazongling
Colorful Yunnan is adorned with diverse landscapes, all shining brilliantly. The red land of Dongchuan (东川红土地) perfectly presents the harmonious relationship between humans and nature, while the peaks of Xueling and Mazongling seem like the celestial brushstrokes of the divine. The red land and the peaks of Xueling and Mazongling, ranked among the “Ten Peaks of Kunming,” showcase both brilliance and grandeur, captivating visitors and becoming representative “divine paintings” of Yunnan. The red land, hailed as “God’s Palette,” displays vibrant colors. Xueling and Mazongling dominate the Yunnan landscape with their high altitudes, revealing a beautiful symphony of “sunset rays on snowy peaks” in the winter.
Huoshiliangzi (火石梁子) is the highest peak of the Gongwang Mountain Range (拱王山系), towering at 4,344 meters, and stands aloof among the surrounding peaks, gazing down at the shifting clouds. Every winter, as the sunset casts its fiery glow, the crimson light dances upon the icy, snow-covered peaks. In an instant, red clouds blanket the sky, and the flames tint the snowy summits. The proud Xueling and the passionate sunset perform a breathtaking “Ice and Fire Love Story.”

In recent years, due to pandemic restrictions, many have chosen not to travel far during holidays, preferring to explore nearby attractions. This led to a trip to Xueling during the National Day holiday.
Xueling, the highest peak in the Kunming region, is located 260 kilometers from Kunming City. It lies east of the Pudu River (普渡河), south of the Jinsha River (金沙江), west of the Xiaojiang Fault (小江断裂), and north of the Liangwang Mountain (梁王山), covering a total area of 4,500 km². Administratively, it falls under Dongchuan District, Xundian County (寻甸县), and Luquan County. Xueling boasts 39 peaks exceeding 4,000 meters, with the main peak, Gongwang Mountain Huoshiliangzi, standing at 4,344 meters, showcasing remarkable geological landscapes that capture our attention.
At 6 AM, we gathered for breakfast, bringing fragrant fried rice along for the journey. In outdoor settings, it’s essential to carry your own lunch, and enjoying warm fried rice with delicious pickles alongside hot tea is indeed a joy. The elevation gains were steep, leaving little room to catch our breath, and there were moments of doubt about continuing. However, by around 10:30 AM, we reached the base camp at an altitude of 3,800 meters, only to later learn that this was relatively fast.
The next two kilometers comprised a rocky path, where every few steps required deep breaths, making me question my choices.
As we neared the summit, the first group had already started descending.
Zhang Jie (张姐), a key member of the first team, continued to push forward.
Should we continue climbing or turn back? At this moment, my mind was filled with thoughts of surrender and struggle. Ultimately, the encouragement of my companions allowed me to overcome my difficulties. After five hours of effort, I stood atop the highest peak in Central Yunnan, Xueling Huofeng (雪岭火峰), at 4,344 meters.
“The infinite scenery lies at perilous peaks” is perfectly applicable here.
The ascent may be easier than the descent, especially for those unaccustomed to rocky paths. Cries of surprise accompanied by laughter echoed throughout our descent.
After a grueling 12-hour trek, we successfully made it to the mountain’s foot, concluding our journey to Xueling Huofeng. Everyone exclaimed how thrilling the experience was and immediately began planning the next climb. We unanimously decided on the next target, the second-highest peak in Central Yunnan, Mazongling, leading to our planned ascent on the 23rd.
Located in Wumeng Township (乌蒙乡) of Luquan County, Kunming, Mazongling is the second-highest peak in the Gongwang Mountain Range, at 4,247 meters—100 meters lower than Xueling and 20 meters higher than Jiaozi Snow Mountain. With clear streams and ponds, the scenery here is particularly stunning. Xueling, Mazongling, and Jiaozi Snow Mountain are close to each other, accessible by foot from Chanfang Village.
A few days before our departure on the 22nd, the weather in Kunming had been consistently rainy. With a sudden drop in temperature on Friday, everyone was cautious. However, the forecast predicted a transition from cloudy to sunny weather, providing us with a glimmer of hope.
With the weather as our companion, we embarked on a journey filled with anticipation, excited to explore the peaks of Central Yunnan. The majestic mountains awaited us!
Xueling Peak (雪岭) is located between Jiaozi Snow Mountain (轿子雪山) and Jiulong Scenic Area (九龙风景区). Known as the “First Peak of Central Yunnan,” Xueling stands at an elevation of 4,344 meters, making it the main peak of Gongwangshan Mountain (拱王山). The peak is covered in snow for much of the year.
Xueling Peak is characterized by its steep terrain and significant vertical climate variations. The unique glacial landforms, extensive rhododendron fields, high-altitude lakes, and multicolored waterfalls combine to create the breathtaking scenery of the “First Peak of Central Yunnan.”
According to historical records, the name “Xueling” first appeared in the “Dongchuan Prefecture Chronicle” during the Qing Dynasty’s Yongzheng era, where it was referred to as “Xueshan” (雪山). Many legends surround Xueling, one of which claims that the mountain features five peaks, with the highest being Luomi Peak (露觅峰). This peak reportedly grows upward periodically but is struck by lightning each time it does, leading to Xueling also being known as “Thunderstrike Mountain” (雷打山).
Xueling spruce (雪岭云杉) is a unique tree species found in the Tianshan Mountain forest region. Towering and evergreen, this species thrives in the heart of Tianshan, forming a green wall along the mountainside. The leaves are needle-shaped and slightly curved, while the cones are elongated and brown. It is believed that Xueling spruce migrated from the Tibetan Plateau over 40 million years ago, becoming exclusive to the northwest of China and remaining among the most spectacular trees in the area.
Over 90% of the forest in the Tianshan area is populated by Xueling spruce. In the mid-mountain belt at elevations of 1,400–2,700 meters, Xueling spruce forms a continuous chain of peaks. It often coexists with tall broadleaf forests, creating lush and colorful scenery.
The Nalati Mountains (那拉提山) by the Ili River is one of the most prosperous areas for Xueling spruce. The warm and humid climate promotes rapid growth, dense forests, and high timber yields. Here, Xueling spruce trees can reach heights of 50–60 meters, with growth rings exceeding 300-400 years. Their narrow crowns and robust, straight trunks resemble giant umbrellas rising from the ground, layer upon layer. Each hectare can produce over 1,000 cubic meters of timber, making this original forest a rare sight worldwide and a highlight of Tianshan.
Each Xueling spruce acts as a miniature reservoir, with a highly developed root system that requires only rainfall and adapts to various soil types. Over time, these strong roots can penetrate rock and soil, with some resembling lions or squid. Thanks to this extensive root network, each mature spruce can store up to 2.5 tons of water. The water vapor released by the spruce is 50% more than that of the same latitude and area of the ocean, contributing to rain formation. Therefore, the vast area of Xueling spruce is an invaluable water conservation area.
Xueling spruce is a premium timber known for its lightness and straight grain, making it the primary material for construction, furniture, and paper in Xinjiang (新疆).
Xueling Peak is the highest peak in Kunming, standing at 4,344 meters, and is recognized as the main peak of Gongwangshan Mountain. The second highest peak is Mazong Ridge (马鬃岭) at 4,247 meters, and the third is Jiaozi Snow Mountain at 4,223 meters.

Xishuangbanna Hekai Tea Mountain
Hekai Tea Mountain is located in the southeast of Menghai County in Hekai Village of Menghun Town. Hekai is one of the the biggest ancient tea gardens planted by humans. Almost one third of the Hekai area is covered by tea trees between 200 and 400 years old. The primary ethnic groups are Hani and Lahu. It is located 50km from the Menghai county seat and belongs to the northern section of the Nannuo mountain chain. Hekai Tea Mountain is divided into Manmai(曼迈) and Mannong old(曼弄老寨) and new villages(曼弄新寨). It contains Xishuangbanna’s best preserved and largest ancient tea gardens. The tea gardens are primarily distributed along mountains and hills between 1,170 and 1,800 meters. Mountains cover 93.5% of its land area. It possesses a southern subtropical, monsoonal climate and receives plentiful rainfall. The yearly average temperature of 18.1°C and relative humidity is 82%. The climate is warm and moist, providing superior natural conditions for growing tea trees. The areas around the tea mountain have luxuriant tree growth. A natural environment with excellent tree cover creates a harmonious tea garden landscape where “the forest contains tea and the tea contains a forest.” Today there are nearly 8,000mu of ancient tea gardens in the Hekai tea growing area, which produce approximately 250 tons of high quality tea per year.
As pu’er became a hot topic for tea lovers all over the globe, pu’er made from ancient tea trees became more highly sought out. This lead to an inundation of buzz words surrounding pu’er such as old tree, ancient tree, big leaf, etc. But do we really understand the meaning of these concepts? Does big leaf pu’er imply old tree? How old does a tree have to be to be called “old tree”? Similarly, how ancient is “ancient tree” pu’er?
The “oldest” tree in Hekai area has been “protected” with the fence. We quoted the word oldest because it’s considered the oldest, we cannot be sure because the only way to know the age of a tree accurately is to cut the tree trunk and count the rings. Obviously, not an option here. To estimate the age, they use data gathered from trees that have already died. Those trees are cut and their age is determined and the trunk diameters are compared to those of living trees to form an estimate. So when we talk about very ancient tea trees, to the order of 2700 to 3200 years old, we cannot be accurate because there is not much trunk diameter information available for this vintage of tree. In Hekai area, the “oldest” tea tree is a relatively large one, and there are a fair number of tea trees that are a similar trunk size, so it’s anyone’s guess which one is really the oldest.
We also quoted “protected”. Protected in the sense that a fence has been built around the tree to protect it from tourists. It a nice idea. But it’s not uncommon to hear of these “protected” ancient trees becoming weak and dying, like the 800 year old tea tree in Nannuo Shan (mountain)(南糯山) or the 500-600 year old Songzhong(宋种) (ancient tea tree of Feng Huang Dan Cong(凤凰单枞)) in Wudong Shan. The big ‘improvement’ in how to protect the tree here in Menghai is that the concrete fence was replaced by a wooden fence. A lion in the zoo is not the same as one in the wild. It’s the same with ancient tea trees, or any tea tress. Perhaps the whole area needs to be blocked off to really protect the ancient trees, so they can have an environment in which to prosper.
Characteristic of Hekai Tea
After brewing the tea, a golden bright yellow liquid will appear with its unique aroma that will fill the room. Some experienced tea lovers call it “spirit of the mountains and nature”, which refers to a rich and mellow flavor that contains floral, honey, fruits as well as the scent of grass and trees. Because of the process of blending, the soft sweetness of this tea is more obvious than other new pu’er teas. The most important characteristic of this tea is “balance”, so its taste is not too bitter or strong which makes it a highly acceptable and cost effective.
Tasting and Serving Hekai Tea – Bitter, sweet and full of energy
Dry leaves are huge. Some leaves are up to 5cm long. Time to time you can find yellow leave. The smell of dry leaves is fruity-sweet. Rinsed leaves smell very intensely fruity and sweet after honey. The first infusion 20s . Lighter infusion, very delicate astringency on the tongue and the sweetness in the aftertaste. Delicate floral taste. The second infusion again 20s – infusion has a sparkling yellow color and the taste is still soft. There is a pronounced astringency and bitterness at the back of the tongue. In the aftertaste there is a mix of sweetness with the bitterness of wild tea trees -“Gu Shu(古树)”. Sweetness is coming back into the mouth from throat -“Hui Gan（回甘）”. The bitterness remains in the mouth for a long time and is very intense with woody tones.
The third infusion – a distinctive taste, astringency is very intensive and it blends into bitterness -“Ku Se（苦涩）“. The energy – “Cha Qi” – is coming directly in the head. You can still feel it even after 7th and 8th cup. Tea has a great energy. Bitterness is less pronounced in further infusions but still preset in the mouth.
Comparing this Hekai tea with Laobanzhang(老班章), Hekai has more pronounced bitterness, it is not so honey-sweet and fragrant. For subsequent infusions there are mushroom tones present in the aftertaste on the tongue. Simply great stuff with great potential for aging.

About Mangzhi Tea Mountain Located in the Mengla County（勐腊县） of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture（西双版纳傣族自治州）, Mangzhi Tea Mountain（莽枝古茶山） is one of the six tea mountains in the area of the riverside of the Lancang River（澜沧江）. There were a few ethnic groups living and planting tea trees in the Mangzhi Mountain over the past thousands of years. With a profound long history, plenty of businessmen who were from Central China came into Mansai Village（曼赛村）, Sudi Village（速底村） and other villages of the foot of the Mangzhi Mountain for tea trade in the late Ming dynasty（AD 1368-1644）. Some Han people came to Mangzhi Tea Mountain for tea trade by lodging in local people’s houses for a short time, because few Han people settled down there.

History
Located in the area of the riverside of the Lancang River, the Mangzhi Tea Mountain is one of the main six tea mountains which consists of the Youle Tea Mountain（攸乐古茶山）, Gedeng Tea Mountain（革登古茶山）, Yibang Tea Mountain（倚邦古茶山）, Mangzhi Tea Mountain（莽枝古茶山）, Manzhuan Tea Mountain（蛮砖古茶山） and Mansa Tea Mountain（慢撒古茶山）. Tightly bordering with Gedeng Tea Mountain and Kongming Mountain（孔明山）, there were a lot of tea plantations being built in Mangzhi Tea Mountain in Yuan dynasty（AD 1271-1368）. In the early years of the Qing dynasty（AD 1644-1912）， Niuguntang Village（牛滚塘村） of Mangzhi Tea Mountain had been the important tea distributing centre.
Most residents who were from other places living in the Niuguntang Village were engaged in the cultivation, collection and trading of tea. During the harvest time of spring tea in March, local tea farmers would go to the temple for praying their ancestors. At present, the temple has been ruined only lefting some lying monuments. The lush trees around the temple like a line of poems seems like recording the profound history of ‘Six Tea Mountains’（六大茶山）. In the meanwhile, we can imagine the magnificent events of the ‘Six Tea Mountains’ through the lying monuments.
The Glimpse of Geography
Located in the Xiangming Village of Mengla County, Mangzhi Tea Mountain was named ‘Mangzhi’ from the place called ‘Mang’ that the Politician Zhu Geliang（诸葛亮） buried a piece of copper from a legend. Although the acreage of the Mangzhi Tea Mountain is not big, the tea produced there is high-quality. The Mangzhi Tea Mountain was abandoned in the late 1940s and returned to life in the 1980s for all kinds of reasons.

The ancient tea trees in the Guafengzhai Village grow quietly on the border between China and Laos. The primeval forest of 50 square kilometers is the best protection forest for ancient tea trees. Close to the border with Laos, Chapingdi(茶坪地) is largely uninhabited and a forgotten gathering place of ancient tea trees. Only in recent years have people discovered the ancient tea trees here. Although there is a saying” Cangshan has nineteen” peaks, which span more than 40 kilometers from north to south and almost fill the entire west bank of Erhai Lake, the southern mountain range with Zhonghe Temple as its midpoint is suitable for mass mountaineering tours. Cangshan has three sightseeing cableways. From south to north, there are Gantong cableway (medium cableway), Ximatan cableway (large cableway/Tianlong cableway) and Zhonghe cableway (Cangshan cableway/small cableway). The medium cableway and small cableway can only reach halfway up the mountain, which is the best way to connect the elite mountaineering route-Yudai Yunyou Road. Only the large cableway can reach Ximatan with an altitude of nearly 4000 meters. Most of Cangshan’s highlights are concentrated around ropeways or hiking trails. Reasonable selection of ropeways and hiking trails can save time and effort. The hiking routes recommended below are not very strong and can be completed by ordinary tourists.

The route of Gantong cableway is second only to the popular route of big cableway, and it is also the one that many local tour groups often choose. The lower station of the ropeway is located near Gantong Temple in Cangshan scenic area, while the upper station is located near Qingbi Stream, with a total length of about 2.5 kilometers. After arriving at the station by cableway, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Cangshan Grand Canyon and Qingbi Stream. At the same time, it is also the starting point of the southernmost part of the “Jade Belt Yunyou Road”.

Gantong Temple is located at Shengying Peak in Cangshan, formerly known as Dangshan Temple. It was built in Han Dynasty and rebuilt in Tang Dynasty. Gantong Temple once built 36 temples, but by the end of the Ming Dynasty it was badly damaged and only one temple (Dayun Temple and Jizhao Hall) remained. At present, temples in the current site of Gantong Temple at the foot of the mountain where the Gantong cableway is located are mostly rebuilt and repaired. Backed by Cangshan Mountain and facing Erhai Lake, Gantong Temple is surrounded by green and verdant tea gardens. When you experience the flavor of ancient temples, you can also walk into the tea gardens and experience the sweetness and aftertaste of famous tea.

“Zhenlong Chess Game” is a fabricated plot in Jin Yong’s martial arts representative work “Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils “. It was founded by Minstrel’s chief executive, Wu Yazi, who wanted to use such a chess game to recruit a talented disciple. This chess game, which has not been cracked for decades in martial arts novels, is not recorded in the real chess world. It is said that Jin Yong’s former Zhenlong chess game is located in the Grand Canyon of Qingbi Stream. The “Zhenlong Chess Board” located near the upper station of Gantong ropeway was built according to the concept in the novel, but it was changed into a huge Chinese chess board according to aesthetic principles. The whole chess board is 25 meters long and 20 meters wide. Each piece is 1.5 meters in diameter and 0.5 meters high. From a high altitude, you can take the cable car to overlook the huge chess game surrounded by pine trees, which is very spectacular.

Qingbi Stream is located between Shengying Peak and Malong Peak in Cangshan Mountain. Clear spring water flows down from the cliffs of the peaks to form three pools of upper, middle and lower Qingxi. The colors of the three pools are different. “The lower pool is dark blue, the middle pool is blue, and the upper pool is green.” Near Qingbi Stream is the southernmost end of Yudai Yunyou Road. If you have plenty of time, you can walk on this beautiful mountain hiking road to the Qilongnv Pool or Zhonghe Temple. The mountain canyon where Qingbi Stream is located is Cangshan Grand Canyon, which was formed by the east-west fracture and water erosion during the ascent of Cangshan Mountain ten thousand years ago. There is a Grand Canyon viewing platform not far from Qingbi Stream. The mountain road to Shangtan is beyond this viewing platform.

Ximatan cableway is also called big cableway and Tianlong cableway. Among the three cableways, the distance is the longest and the reachable altitude is the highest. The Baihe Creek’s lower station of the tramway is located near Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils Film and Television City. In the middle of the whole tramway, there is a “Qilongnv Pool Middle Station”. The upper station is located near the tramway, which is nearly 4000 meters above sea level. The 5,555-meter tramway is divided into two parts, the next stop is “Baihe creek” to “Qilongnv Pool ” and “Ximatan”, connecting the three main attractions (Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils Film and Television City, Qilongnv Pool and Ximatan) at the foot of the mountain. From the foot of the mountain, you can see the changes of forest vegetation, even the wonderful sight of “one mountain has four seasons” in the process of slowly rising.

Ximatan has a good reputation as a “lake on the top of the mountain”. It is located between Cangshan Jade Bureau Peak and Longquan Peak, with an altitude of 3,920 meters. It is said that when Kublai Khan of Yuan Shizu led his troops to Dali, he crossed Cangshan and stationed here to wash horses, hence the name. According to historical records, a high mountain reservoir was built in today’s Ximatan area during the Nanzhao period to guide mountain springs to irrigate farmland below the mountain. The temperature at the top of the mountain is much lower than that at the foot of the mountain. Mount the viewing platform at an altitude of 3980m and you will have a clear view of Ximatan. The lake is surrounded by a fascinating sea of alpine azalea flowers, but the scenery throughout the year is very different, only azalea is different every month. When the weather is good, the pool reflects the blue sky and presents irresistible sapphire blue.

Qilongnv Pool is the middle stop of the Ximatan cableway and the only way to travel around the Jade Belt Road. The spring water flowing from the middle of Black Dragon Creek in Cangshan has formed seven pools. Legend has it that this is the place where the seven dragon ladies of Erhai Dragon King bathe and rest. They bathe here every summer and the night when the moon is high. They do not return to Erhai Dragon Palace until dawn. The cool mountain spring water covers the rock wall like white silks and satins, falling into the pool and making sweet sounds, creating a mountain wonderland.

Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils Film and Television City at the foot of Cangshan Mountain is one of the shooting bases for the TV series Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils . The film and television city is composed of Dali Kingdom, Liao Kingdom, Xixia Palace and Jurchen Tribe. It can feel the prosperous social style of Dali Kingdom at that time in antique buildings. Walking through the tower of the movie and TV city is the gate of Dali Palace, where Duan Yu’s uncle Baoding Emperor Duan Zhengming met with courtiers and handled affairs of state.

The Zhonghe cableway, also called Cangshan cableway and small cableway, is the northernmost of the three cableways, and the height it can reach is also the lowest, probably halfway up the mountain. There are no more than two other attractions along the Zhonghe cableway, only Zhonghe Temple, who got on the station. Friends who like burning incense and hikers can choose this ropeway. For ordinary tourists, it is better to recommend the other two. The cableway is also different in that its compartment is old-fashioned, that is, it is not covered by a shell and is a pure open-air suspended chair seat.
Zhonghe Temple, located halfway up Cangshan and Zhonghe Peak, is a very famous Taoist temple in Dali. It is precisely because Zhonghe Peak is the central peak of “Cangshan Nineteen Peak” and the foot of the mountain is facing Dali Ancient town and Erhai Lake, which has become the best place to overlook Dali Old City and Erhai Lake. Zhonghe Temple is made up of temples such as Juxian Tower, Linggong Hall and Yuhuang Pavilion. Every year, the 9th day of the first month of the lunar calendar is the birthday of The emperor of the Jade, Zhonghe Temple will hold a grand “Peach Blossom Meeting” and Bai people from nearby will come to the temple fair in an endless stream. Zhonghe Temple is also a must-pass point on the Jade Belt Roam Road. Many hikers will come here from the southernmost Qingbi Stream and take cable cars down the mountain.

“Jade Belt Roam Road” is one of the most famous hiking routes in Cangshan, and it is a scenic hiking road between mountains. If you want to know Cangshan better, you may as well set foot on Jade Belt Roam Road. As its name implies, the Jade Belt Roam Road floats like a soft ribbon around Cangshan’s waist. Jade Belt Roam Road is about 18 kilometers long and 2 meters wide. Its northernmost point is Yunyou Square near Yinglefeng’s Cangshan TV Station Turntable Transfer Station, and its southernmost point is near Qingbi Stream of Malong Peak, connecting Cangshan with many wonderful sights. The whole Jade Belt Roam Roadis built for hikers, with little fluctuation and paved trails suitable for tourists. It is very easy to walk.

There are four ways to reach Jade Belt Roam Road halfway up the mountain. the order from south to north is as follows:
(1) Take the inductive cableway (medium cableway): Starting from the lower station of Gantong Temple cableway, after taking the cableway to the upper station, the lower cableway is Jade Belt Roam Road. This is the most economical and labor-saving way, which many people will choose. After visiting Qingbi Stream, it is highly recommended to take Jade Belt Roam Road from journey to the south at the southernmost end to Qilongnv Pool or Zhonghe Temple and then take the cable car down the mountain.
(2) Take the Ximatan cableway (large cableway/Tianlong cableway): Take the Ximatan cableway from the Baihe River lower station near Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils Film and Television City to the lower station of Qilongnv Pool Middle Station, not far from which is Jade Belt Roam Road. It is more expensive to take the cableway up the mountain, reaching the middle point of Jade Belt Roam Road, which is not suitable for the whole journey of Jade Belt Roam Road. you can only choose one direction instead of going back.
(3) Walk up the mountain from the hiking trail next to Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils Film and Television City: The hiking trail is next to the parking lot on the west side of Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils Film and Television City. You can walk up the mountain after paying the entrance fee to Cangshan Mountain in 40 yuan. This method consumes a lot of physical strength. It takes about 70 minutes to reach the vicinity of Fengyan Cave on Yudai Yunyou Road. You can go south to Qingbi Stream or north to Zhonghe Temple and then take a cable car down the mountain according to your preference.
(4) Take the Zhonghe cableway (Cangshan cableway/small cableway): You can reach Zhonghe Temple by taking the Zhonghe cableway, and it is also good to go south from here to the Qilongnv Pool or Qingbi Stream.
Route: Gantong Temple-take Gantong cableway-Qingbi Stream-Jade Belt Roam Road (hiking to the north)-Qilongnv Pool-take Ximatan cableway (Qilong Women’s Pool Central Station) to the top of the mountain-Ximatan-take Ximatan cableway down the mountain-Baihe River Lower Station (Tianlong Babu Film and Television City), or go in the opposite direction.

Dali is very small, so you can know its grand view after half a day’s leisure. At the same time Dali is also very large, and without enjoying carefully cannot get the whole picture.
