Despite the scorching weather during our visit, we managed to explore the main attractions, albeit missing out on the nearby winery due to time constraints. However, I am determined to return in better weather conditions next time.

The vast Dongfengyun Scenic Area is truly a gem in Maitreya, Yunnan, with its picturesque red brick buildings. I particularly enjoyed staying within the scenic area, as it provided serene moments for morning and evening photography without the hustle and bustle of tourists.

Art is the focal point of the entire scenic spot, with prominent landmarks such as the Red Wine Castle and the Art Museum crafted from local red soil bricks. Among these, the Red Wine Castle stands out as a popular spot for photoshoots, drawing visitors, especially men and women seeking to capture Instagram-worthy shots. While exploring the expansive area requires some physical exertion, the pleasant climate makes the journey enjoyable, albeit under the scorching sun.

A few practical tips and suggestions:

1. Parking: Parking spaces are available within the scenic area, although during peak seasons like the Spring Festival, temporary charges may apply. Alternatively, consider driving to the scenic spot entrance and utilizing the free sightseeing car transfer to the gate.
2. Tickets: Adult tickets can be conveniently booked online for self-collection. Elderly, students, and children are eligible for half-price tickets upon presenting their ID cards. Sightseeing cars are available for those who find walking challenging.
3. Overall View: While the scenery may seem exaggerated, the experience feels akin to strolling through a wetland park or lavender field, albeit with seedlings still in their early stages. Unfortunately, the high influx of visitors contributes to a slightly chaotic environment, particularly in commercial areas where sanitation standards seem lacking. Improvement in cleanliness and organization is warranted given the ticket price.

In conclusion, the Dongfengyun Art Center integrates seamlessly with the surrounding red landscape, offering a unique architectural dialogue that harmonizes with the natural setting. This train in Lijiang features nearly 2-meter-high windows and is billed as the world’s most beautiful panoramic mountain tourist train, meeting all your expectations for a perfect train trip.

Lijiang Urban Comprehensive Rail Transit Project Phase I (Line 1)

Location and Overview: Lijiang Urban Comprehensive Rail Transit Project Phase I (Line 1) is situated on the southern foothills of Yulong Snow Mountain, within Yulong County in Lijiang, Yunnan Province. The total investment for the project is 3.07 billion yuan. The line spans 20.47 kilometers with a designed speed of 70 km/h and includes five stations: Tourist Center Station, Baisha Ancient Town Station, Yushuizhai Station, Dongba Valley Station, and Yulong Snow Mountain Station. Line 1 passed its preliminary safety assessment from October 25 to 26, 2023, and is expected to officially commence operations in December 2023.

Construction Timeline:

• December 23, 2021: The Lijiang Urban Comprehensive Rail Transit Project Phase I (Line 1), constructed by China Railway Eighth Group, completed its first rail laying, marking a significant step towards the project’s timely operation.
• August 2022: The world’s first mountain tourism sightseeing train successfully entered the Lijiang Rail Transit Line 1 on July 20, marking a new milestone for the line, which is jointly invested in by China Railway Construction, China State Railway Group, and Guangzhou Metro.
• November 29, 2022: The Lijiang sightseeing train’s Phase I project conducted an empty load trial run. The project company carried out a three-month empty load trial run in accordance with regulations, followed by safety assessments before the official operation.
• October 25-26, 2023: Line 1 passed its preliminary safety assessment.
• January 4, 2024: People’s Daily reported that Lijiang City attaches great importance to the Phase I project of the Lijiang sightseeing train, holding multiple specialized meetings for coordination and deployment. The city is urging the construction unit, Lijiang Snow Mountain Rail Transit Co., Ltd., and relevant departments to address any deficiencies in accordance with national urban rail transit regulations and accelerate ecological restoration. The line will be opened for preliminary operation upon meeting all legal and compliance conditions and receiving approval from the Lijiang Municipal Government. In the same month, the passenger code of conduct (provisional) for Lijiang Urban Comprehensive Rail Transit Project Phase I (Line 1) was released. In April, preparations for the preliminary operation were underway, and by June, the construction unit and relevant departments were being urged to address any deficiencies and complete the necessary conditions before the project’s opening. The line will proceed with preliminary operation following legal procedures and approval from the Lijiang Municipal Government.

The line connects major tourist attractions and passenger flow distribution points, including the Snow Mountain Tourist Center, Baisha Ancient Town, Yushuizhai, Dongba Valley, and the Ganhai Zi Service Area. It is a key route in the development of Lijiang’s rapid tourism rail transit network.

Basic Information:

The Lijiang Urban Comprehensive Rail Transit Project Phase I (Line 1) has a total length of 20.465 kilometers. It links significant tourist sites and passenger distribution points, including the Yulong Snow Mountain Tourist Center, Baisha Ancient Town, Yushuizhai, Dongba Valley, and the Ganhai Zi Service Area. The line uses 59R2 rail with a standard gauge of 1.435 meters, a standard track spacing of 4 meters, and a designed maximum speed of 70 km/h.

The train is part of Line 1 of the Lijiang Rail Transit Network and will operate from the Lijiang Old Town Tourist Center to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It promises a new travel experience through picturesque canyons, meadows, ancient towns, alpine lakes, and majestic snow-capped mountains.

Exterior and Interior Facilities of the Sightseeing Train

The train’s exterior is primarily blue, inspired by the crystal-clear Blue Moon Lake at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It features a super-large curved front window and 1.9-meter (6.2-foot) high side windows, with a transparent curved glass roof that allows for open, bright interiors and expansive views.

Notably, the train’s large side windows have electric dimming capabilities, adjusting the glass color based on outside sunlight intensity, ensuring passengers are protected from excessive glare while enjoying the scenery.

The interior is decorated with Dongba script and Naxi art patterns, immersing passengers in local culture. Each compartment has three spacious and comfortable seats in a row, offering a great experience of connecting with nature as the train travels through the mountains.

Yingjiang county is on the top of birds resources list in China and enjoys the reputation of a living bird museum. There are nearly 700 species of birds living on this land of more than 4,000 square kilometers. About 50% of the total number of birds recorded in China living here. This is the best breeding place for hornbills in China. There are five species of hornbills recorded in China: China’s largest woodpecker-the giant gray woodpecker, China’s smallest bird of prey-the red-legged falcon, China’s first recorded white-winged duck, gray-bellied pheasant and so on. Many ” the most” show a colorful country of birds. There are not only many bird species here, but also many bird species distributed in narrow areas of China. 二.Major activity content

The Bird Watching Festival is divided into four parts: experience water-splashing Carnival series, China Hornbill Valley Big Day Bird Watching Challenge, booth display and Hornbill Forum.

（一） Registeration and Experience of the carnival activities series. On April 30th, all people attend flower-picking and “appreciation” activities,then there is a ethnic unity banquet, where drivers and each team will meet . In the evening there is a welcoming performance and the opening of the 5th Yingjiang International Bird Watching Festival and other activities.

（二）.China Hornbill Valley Big Day Bird watching Challenge. Each team (no more than three persons) submites bird watching records made on May 1, 00:00 to 24:00 24 hours in Yingjang County.The competition sets up three awards: Excellence Prize to three winners who have recorded the largest number of species of birds, Supreme Prize to the winner who has recorded the birds of the most rare-seen species, and New Record Prize to those who have recorded the species beyond Yingjiang Bird List.

 

(三）.Booth Display from April 30th to May 2nd. Each organization has a booth for exhibits whick involve advertising stuff ,bird watching souvenirs, etc. Exhibits should be around the theme of bird watching and biodiversity conservation.

（四）. The 2nd Hornbill Forum. From 13:00 to 18:00 on May 2nd, leaders, guests and participants in the bird-watching competition will be invited to make speaches.

四. Enrollment and requirements

（一) there are 15 teams for this bird-watching festival, with 3 members in each team. From the release of this announcement to 24:00 on April 15,2023, we will inform the applicants by email within 1 working day after the end of the registration. There is no registration charge for the 15 selected teams to the bird watching festival.

(二) Groups that are not selected for the 15 invited teams can participate in the bird watching Festival at their own expense, and contact the organizing committee to submit valid data, which will be included in the results of the bird watching Challenge.

(三) Groups who intend to participate in the booth exhibition of this bird-watching Festival but are not selected for the 15 invited places can participate at their own expense and contact the organizing committee, which can provide the exhibition booth free of charge.

(四) During this period of activity, if you and your family want to experience the bird watching Festival series activities or bird watching in Yingjiang, you can sign up for a group with Hengya Travel Agency and attend at your own expense.
