Daoyipang Fishing Village of Shuanglang Town in Dali City

Daoyipang Village (岛依旁村) is located in Dajianpang Administrative Village (大建旁行政村), Shuanglang Town (双廊镇), Dali City (大理市), Yunnan Province (云南省). Situated in a plain area on the southern side of the town, it lies 0.5 km from the village committee, 1.5 km from Shuanglang Town, at an elevation of 1,975 meters. The village enjoys an average annual temperature of 15°C and an annual rainfall of 1,080 mm. With no farmland, the villagers primarily rely on fishing for income.

Infrastructure

By the end of 2006, the village had access to water, electricity, and roads. Out of 60 households, 56 used tap water, 4 relied on well water, and all had electricity and cable TV. All 60 households owned a television; 43 had either fixed-line or mobile phones, all of which were mobile phones. The road to town is paved, while roads within the village are dirt roads. The nearest bus station is 1 km away, and the nearest market is 1.5 km away. The village owned 6 motorcycles and 4 households had solar power.
Housing was mainly brick–wood structures, with 10 households in brick–concrete houses, 24 in brick–wood houses, 20 in earth–wood houses, and 6 in other structures.

Rural Economy

In 2006, the village’s total rural economic income was 680,000 yuan, of which 180,000 yuan came from animal husbandry and 500,000 yuan from fishing. The per capita net income of farmers was 1,423 yuan, with fishing as the main source. Migrant work brought in 60,000 yuan, with 20 villagers working away from home—16 within Yunnan Province and 4 outside the province.

Population and Health

The village had 60 households with a total population of 193 people, including 113 males and 81 females. There were 120 laborers, and the Bai ethnic group was the majority. Medical care was mainly provided by the village clinic and the town health center, located 0.5 km and 1.5 km away respectively. Two garbage collection points were established in the village.

Education

Primary school students attend Dajianpang Complete Primary School (大建旁完小), while junior secondary students go to Shuanglang Town Junior Middle School (双廊镇初级中学). The primary school is 0.5 km away, and the middle school is 2 km away. In 2006, there were 34 students in compulsory education—22 in primary school and 12 in junior secondary school.
